Owner's Guide
9. Remove both locking rods from their respective holes, connect
lamp leads and replace work table housing onto motor housing.
Plug instrument into wall receptacle and proceed with work.
Carefully store both locking rods in a safe location for future use.
Drilling depth adjustment
Drill depth has been adjusted at the factory. On rare occasions,
after changing drills, it may be necessary to make a drill depth
adjustment. This knurled, internally threaded hand nut may be
raised or lowered until the proper drilling depth has been achieved
(Fig. 43).
Light beam spotter adjustment
1. The light beam spotter switch is activated by the hex socket set
screw mounted in the work table surface (Fig. 44, arrow 12).
2. With the hex key provided, raise or lower the set screw until
the light beam spotter goes off at the moment that the full
drilled depth is achieved.
Unit does not drill parallel holes
This is usually caused by:
• Debris accumulation on the work table.
• A model that is not flat along its entire bottom work surface.
• Allowing the model to rise up off the work surface against the
drilling pressure. Hold the model down against the work table
more firmly and raise drill more slowly.
• The model is rocked during drilling. This will cause drill break-
age.
• The model is permitted to slide during drilling. This will also
cause drill breakage.
Does not start
• Check to determine that plug has not slipped out of wall recep-
tacle and that the power switch breaker is ON.
• The motor thermal overload protector may be activated. Allow
1/2 hour to cool.
• The fuse may have blown.
Fuse blows
1. Turn the main power switch to OFF position.
2. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet and the power
cord receptacle.
3. The fuse compartment is located adjacent to the power
cord receptacle. To access, lightly insert a small, flat-headed
screwdriver in the slot on the upper section of the fuse com-
partment. Apply slight outward pressure to slide out the fuse
compartment.
4. Gently lift the center tab of the fuse compartment to release the
clear plastic fuse holder. Slide the fuse holder completely out of
the fuse compartment (Fig. 47).
5. Examine the fuses. If either or both are blown, replace with
fuses that match the unit's voltage. If both fuses appear to be
in good condition and power is not activated when the main
power on/off switch is turned ON, return the unit to your deal-
er or Coltène/Whaledent. See section IX Unit Specifications.
6. To re-assemble the fuse compartment, slide the fuse hold-
er back into the fuse compartment until it snaps into place.
Replace the fuse compartment into the lower portion of the
power receptacle; it will snap into place.
7. Make sure the main power switch is OFF before you plug the
power cord into the power cord receptacle and the wall outlet.
Electric motor stops
The motor is provided with an automatic resetting inaccessible
thermal overload protector. Always turn the unit OFF when not in
actual use.
In the event the unit is accidentally left ON for a long period of
time, the drill motor may automatically cut OFF.
1. Switch the unit OFF.
2. Allow to cool for approximately 1/2 hour.
3. Turn ON and continue operation.
Squeal
The usual cause for squeal is grit and debris embedded in rotating
parts. Turn OFF the machine, brush and vacuum away all debris
accumulation in the rotating drill chuck area.

Installation Instructions
1. Tape a small piece of white paper to the work table to cover the
drill hole. Do not remove paper until installation is complete.
2. Turn the Pindex unit ON.
3. Drill a hole through the paper.
4. Turn the unit OFF after drilling the hole.
5. Remove the work table from the motor housing by pressing in
the work table lock-pin and lifting the work table away from
the motor housing.
6. Disconnect the black and white wires from the light arm to the
motor housing by gently pulling them out of the connectors.
7. Remove the light arm from the work table by removing the
hex cap screws on the underside of the work table. Use the
hex key provided.
8. Place the new laser-arm into approximately the same position as
the old light arm. You can use the same screws and washers or
the screws and washers provided. Fasten the screws snug, not
tight. The laser arm must be adjusted into a final position by hand.
