4 Mounting
GB
The unit must safely be mounted in an expert way. On
both sides, the housing has mounting brackets by
which the dimmer can e. g. be fixed to a wall. In any
case air must be allowed to circulate through all vents
so that a sufficient cooling is ensured.
5 Making the Connections
5.1 Connecting lamps
WARNING Even if the output voltage is reduced, a
dangerous mains voltage may be pres-
ent at the sockets (2). Therefore, prior
to connecting lamps or working at the
lamps, disconnect the DP-4DMX in any
case from the 230 V mains!
The outputs (2) of the DP-4DMX allow to connect all
types of reflectors, light effect units, lamps, or other
light sources which can be dimmed and which work
with an operating voltage of 230 V~ and do not repre-
sent an inductive load, i. e. do not contain any trans-
formers or choke coils. The maximum load per chan-
nel must not exceed 1150 W and the total load must
not exceed 3680 W (16 A).
5.2 Connecting the control unit
The DP-4DMX can be controlled digitally via the DMX
interface or in an analog way via the analog input. A
DMX control and an analog mixer may also be
connected at the same time. The respectively higher
light value of the control units is taken for the corre-
sponding channel. With the analog control console
e. g. a lower light value can be adjusted as a preheat-
ing for the coiled filaments of the lamps.
5.2.1 Connecting the DMX control unit
Connect a control unit with DMX512 protocol (e. g.
DMX-1440 or DMX-120 from "img Stage Line") as fol-
lows:
1) Connect the input (7) via a 3-pole XLR cable to the
DMX output of the light control unit.
For the connection, special cables for high data
flow should be used. The use of standard micro-
phone cables can only be recommended for a total
cable length of up to 100 m. The best transmission
results are obtained with a screened microphone
cable of 2 x 0.25 mm
cable. For cable lengths exceeding 150 m it is
recommended to insert a DMX level matching
amplifier (e. g. SR-103DMX from "img Stage Line").
2) Connect the output (8) to the DMX input of the next
dimmer or light effect unit. Connect its output again
to the input of the following unit etc. until all DMX
receivers are connected.
The DMX output jack has a latching. To pull out
the plug, press the PUSH lever.

or a special data transmission
3) Terminate the DMX output of the last DMX receiver
of the row with a 120 Ω resistor (0.25 W): Solder the
resistor to the pins 2 and 3 of an XLR plug and
connect the plug to the DMX output or use a corre-
sponding terminating plug (e. g. DLT-123 from "img
Stage Line").
5.2.2 Connecting an analog control unit
Connect an analog light control unit with 0 –10 V con-
trol voltage as follows:
1) Connect the input ANALOG IN (9) to the analog
output of the light control unit. For connection a
special 8-pole cable is used. The configuration of
the jacks is shown in figure 3. The connection of the
central contact is optional. It can serve for the sup-
ply of an analog console without individual mains
voltage. When connecting, ensure that the admissi-
ble supply voltage of the console and the maximum
current of 500 mA will not be exceeded.
2) For operating another dimmer with analog control
(0 –10 V) in parallel to the dimmer for increasing the
output power, this dimmer may be connected via
the 8-pole jack ANALOG THROUGH (9). The con-
figuration of the jack is shown in fig. 3. Do not
connect the central contact in this case.
5.3 Making the mains connection
For power supply, connect the unit via the PowerCon
jack (1) to the 230 V mains. A mains cable is not sup-
plied with the unit. For connection, a mains cable with
®
a PowerCon
plug and an earthed plug (e. g. AAC-
115P from "img Stage Line") may be used. Also ensure
that the electric circuit the unit is connected to is pro-
tected by a fuse of a sufficient value.
6 Operation
6.1 Switching on and selection of the operating
mode
After connection of the mains cable to the 230 V
mains, the unit is switched on and ready for operation.
The power/DMX signal LED lights up continuously.
For switching to another operating mode, configure
the DIP switches, as described in the following:
6.2 Control via DMX
The output voltages of the DP-4DMX can be controlled
by DMX control unit in 255 steps from 0 % to 100 %.
Select between the following operating modes with the
switch FUNCTION (10):
1. Switch in the upper position: Independent operation
of all channels; the four outputs are controlled via
one DMX channel each.
2. Switch position ON: Parallel operation of all chan-
nels via a common DMX channel
