1 Operating Elements and Connections
1.1 Upper side of the unit
®
1 PowerCon
jack for connection to the 230 V mains
(see chapter 5.3)
2 Earthed sockets CH 1 to CH 4 for connection to the
lamps to be controlled
WARNING Even if the output voltage is re-
duced, a dangerous mains voltage
may be present at the sockets.
Therefore, prior to connecting lamps
or working at the lamps, disconnect
the DP-4DMX in any case from the
230 V mains!
3 Automatic fuse 16 A for protection of the mains
input
4 Output level indications of the channels 1 to 4; the
brightness of the indication increases with rising
output voltage.
5 LED Power/DMX signal; the LED lights up contin-
uously as a power indication or flashes when a
DMX signal is received.
6 Fuse holder for protection of the outputs CH 1 to
CH 4; only replace a blown fuse by one of the same
type!
1.2 Front side
7 DMX input: XLR, 3-pole
1 = ground, 2 = DMX-, 3 = DMX+
8 DMX output: XLR, 3-pole
1 = ground, 2 = DMX-, 3 = DMX+
9 Input jacks and output jacks for connection of a
control console with analog output (0 –10 V) or
another dimmer; pin configuration see fig. 3
10 DIP switches Nos. 1 to 9 for adjusting the DMX
start address or for selecting the automatic light
sequencer (see chapter 6.4)
DIP switch No. 10 for the selection of the operating
mode:
ON = control of all outputs synchronous with chan-
nel 1 (with DMX operation and automatic light
sequencer)
2 Safety Notes
This unit corresponds to all required directives of the
EU and is therefore marked with
WARNING The unit is supplied with hazardous
mains voltage (230 V~). Never make
any modifications on the unit and do not
insert anything into the air vents! Inex-
pert handling may cause an electric
shock hazard.
It is essential to observe the following items:
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
against dripping water and splash water, high air
humidity, and heat (admissible ambient temperature
range 0 – 40 °C).
Do not place any vessels filled with liquid, e.g. drink-
ing glasses, on the unit.
The heat being generated in the unit must be carried
off by air circulation. Therefore, the air vents at the
housing must not be covered.
Do not set the unit into operation, or immediately
disconnect it from the mains if
1. there is visible damage to the unit or to the mains
cable,
2. a defect might have occurred after a drop or simi-
lar accident,
3. malfunctions occur.
The unit must in any case be repaired by skilled per-
sonnel.
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the mains
plug from the mains socket when you have connect-
ed the unit via a plug. Always seize the plug.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
water or chemicals.
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liability for
any resulting personal damage or material damage
will be accepted if the unit is used for other purposes
than originally intended, if it is not correctly connect-
ed, operated, or not repaired in an expert way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation de-
finitively, take it to a local recycling plant for
a disposal which is not harmful to the envi-
ronment.
3 Applications
The DP-4DMX is a compact 4-channel dimmer for
effect lighting e. g. on stage or in the discothèque. It
can be controlled digitally via a DMX control unit or
from the analog output (0 –10 V) of a light console. In
addition, the DP-4DMX has a light sequencer function
with a programme running automatically.
