The compressed air cylinders used must comply with European Directive 2014/68/EU applicable
to pressure equipment.
For France: When the breathing apparatus is used with two cylinders, the cylinders must
necessarily be connected to each other by a manifold that cannot be removed by hand, with only
one valve to control both cylinders.
The volume of air carried is calculated on the basis of the capacity and filling pressure of the cylinders, for example:
•
MONO version composed of one 7 litre cylinder at 300 bar contains:
TWIN version composed of two 7 litre cylinders at 300 bar/each contains:
•
The supply time will depend on the quantity of air carried and the air consumed by the user.
This consumption varies greatly depending on the user and the work done.
The consumption by the wearer is considered to be low, medium or high with a respiratory rate that is:
Low:
20 L/min mean output or 63 L/min max. instant output
•
Medium:
40 L/min mean output or 126 L/min max. instant output
•
•
High:
100 L/min mean output or 314 L/min max. instant output
USE
Only apparatuses that have been regularly maintained in keeping with requirements may be used.
For safety reasons, during regular inspections, it is recommended to check visually if the cylinders for the apparatus contain enough air.
Operating conditions for the apparatus
-30°C to +60°C
Initial checks
Check before mounting the cylinder that cylinder strap length is appropriate for the cylinder (mono or TWIN). If not, proceed to the cylinder
strap replacement
Closing the cylinder locking collar (MONO and TWIN version) (Figure 6)
The buckle of the cylinder collar strap must be on the right of the backplate (cylinder in front of you and pressure reducer to the bottom).
Thread the strap into the buckle of the cylinder collar
•
•
Pass it over the tightening lever then inside.
Pass it back through the buckle of the cylinder collar, gently stretching the strap
•
Lower the cylinder lever so that it remains locked in the lower position
•
•
Pull the cylinder collar strap back over the lever and buckle.
Press the end of the strap onto the self-gripping strip.
•
Positioning the hoses
The medium pressure hose must pass over the wearer's right shoulder and the demand valve must be fixed to the valve holder.
The pressure gauge hose must pass over the wearer's left shoulder.
The pressure allows the charge status in the cylinder(s) to be read easily.
Rapid checks before use
Breathing apparatus
Check all connectors are correctly tightened (high pressure, medium pressure, hoses, etc.)
•
•
Check the shoulder straps and waist belt are in good condition, and that they are correctly fastened to the backplate, particularly if
they include metal ferrules (tearing, distorted parts, etc.)
Pressure in the compressed air cylinder
Fully open the cylinder valve(s). The pressure gauge must show a pressure of:
•
180 bar minimum with a 200-bar cylinder,
270 bar minimum with a 300-bar cylinder.
•
If used with lower air pressures, supply time of the apparatus is reduced
Circuit leak test
Disconnect the demand valve from the Air Klic connector of the respiratory mask.
•
When using the AERIS demand valve, ensure that the first inhalation mechanism is in the closed position.
•
•
Close the compressed air cylinder valve(s) and monitor the pressure gauge. The pressure must not fall more than 20 bar in one
minute.
Alarm device test
•
Open the cylinder valve(s) to put the apparatus under pressure.
Close the cylinder valve(s) again.
•
•
Slowly vent the circuit by pressing the demand valve bypass button.
Watch the pressure gauge; the whistle should sound at 55 bar.

7 x 300 x 0.9 = 1,890 L of air
2 x (7 x 300) x 0.9 = 3,780 L of air
