To install the battery:
1. Carefully put the battery in the engine compartment as
shown in Figure 25.
2. Install the battery hold-down with the removed hardware.
Tighten the hardware.
3. Connect the red positive (+) cable(s) to the positive (+)
battery terminal.
4. Connect the black negative (-) cable(s) to the negative (-)
battery terminal.
5. Install the terminal covers over the battery terminals.

Clean the Battery and Cables
1. Remove the battery. See Remove and Install the
Battery.
2. Clean the battery terminals and cable ends with a wire
brush until shiny.
3. Install the battery. See Remove and Install the Battery.
4. Apply a coat of petroleum jelly or non-conducting grease
to the cable ends and battery terminals.
5. Install the terminal covers over the battery terminals.
Service the Battery
1. Remove the battery. See Remove and Install the
Battery.
2. Put the battery in a well-ventilated area on a level
surface.
3. Using distilled water, fill the cells as needed to cover the
cell plates.
4. With the cell caps removed, connect the battery charger
to the battery terminals: red to positive (+) terminal and
black to negative (-) terminal.

5. Slow charge the battery at 1 amp for 10 hours.
6. Install the battery. See Remove and Install the Battery.
7. If the battery will not charge or is partly charged after 10
hours of charging at 1 amp, replace with a new battery.
Drain the Fluid Containment System
(FCS)
The unit has a sealed fluid containment system to hold fuel,
oil and coolant spills. It can hold more than the total amount
of the unit's fluids.
To drain:
1. Put an approved container under one of the fluid
containment drains (A, Figure 26).
2. Remove the fluid containment drain plug(s) (B, Figure
26). After the fluid has been drained, install the drain
plug(s). Apply a small amount of thread sealant onto the
drain plug threads before installing.
3. Dispose of the fluid in accordance with EPA or other
governmental guidelines.
