5.6. Glass cleanness
49
In addition to the use of a suitable fuel, a sufficient supply of combustion air (especially secondary) and a corre-
sponding chimney draught, the way in which the fireplace insert is operated also has an effect on maintaining the
cleanliness of the transparent window. In this context, it is recommended to stoke only one layer of fuel so that
the fuel is spread in the fireplace as evenly as possible and so that it is as far away from the glass as possible. In
case the glass gets stained during heating, we recommend increasing the intensity of combustion by opening the
primary air vent regulator, which usually cleans the glass on its own. If the glass cannot be cleaned in this way, use
special mechanical or chemical agents intended exclusively for this purpose after the fireplace and the glass have
cooled. Avoid their unwanted application on the painted parts of the insert, as this can cause irreversible damage
to the painted surface of the heater.
5.7. Ash removal
With regard to the intensity of heating, it is necessary to keep the vents supplying the air under the fuel free. It is
best to perform this cleaning operation when the heater is cooled. Make sure the bottom of the fireplace is not
overfilled with ash. Accumulated ash prevents the supply of air under the fuel and can fundamentally affect the
quality of combustion.
CAUTION: Before regular cleaning of the fireplace, check that there are no glowing residues that could cause a
fire in the waste container. Burned wood ash can be used as a fertilizer.
6. CLEANING, MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
6.1. Heater cleaning
The cooled fireplace insert must be cleaned at least once a year (after the heating season), or even more often.
When cleaning, it is necessary to remove settled soot in the flues, combustion chamber and on the draught di-
rection deflectors. The repair of the missing parts of the vermiculite lining, preferably by replacing them, is also
required. The completeness of the vermiculite lining must be monitored during the heating season. The gaps
between the individual vermiculite blocks serve as thermal expansion joints to prevent cracking of the blocks and
it is not suitable to fill the gaps in any way (e.g. with patching material), as was customary in case of older solid
fuel heaters.
Cracked vermiculite blocks do not lose their functionality if they do not fall out completely!
Glass can be cleaned using common products for cleaning cookers and ovens, dry soft cloth or even newspapers,
or the special product for cleaning woodburning stove glass ATMOSFIRE; you can use the offer of the manu-
facturer of fireplace inserts and stoves HS Flamingo s.r.o. (gel consistency, e.g. MEFISTO, or CARAMBA spray). The
glass must always be cleaned when cooled. You can use a damp flannel cloth to clean the painted parts of the
heater surface; the surface cannot be cleaned with chemical agents, as this could damage the surface finish. When
applying the glass cleaner, the product must not get on the sealing cord. If the product comes into contact with
the seal, it may cause damage (hardening) and loss of its sealing function.
Caution: The heat-resistant paint used to spray the heater is not anti-corrosion or water-resistant, so it is necessa-
ry to ensure that the insert is installed in areas that are dry and properly ventilated. In addition, care must be taken
not to damage the integrity of the spray, as rust could occur in the damaged places in areas with higher humidity.
6.2. Chimney fire
In the event of a chimney fire, it is necessary to immediately close all air supply to the appliance (chimney), quickly
remove flammable material from the proximity of the chimney (extinguish the fire in the combustion chamber
immediately by removing burning residues with a dustpan into a suitable non-flammable container) and imme-
diately call the fire brigade or the emergency service (line 112). Never extinguish a chimney fire with water, as it
could cause cracks or explosion. Until the fire brigade arrives, you can try to put out the flames by throwing dry
sand through the soot door or into the chimney from the roof.
6.3. Deflector cleaning
To clean the upper area above the deflectors, the side cover plates of the insert cleaning openings can be optio-
nally removed on both sides, see the attachment. The S5 model has two openings on both sides, while models M9
and X15 have only one. Fallen soot can then be swept into the combustion chamber, from where it can be easily
removed (vaccuumed). When installing and enclosing the insert, it is necessary to take into account that these
deflectors should be cleaned at least once a year (more often in the case of a flue with a chimney function), and
a sufficient access maintained from the side through the enclosure.
