5.6. FIRST DRIVE
The rider should take his/her first drive only after meeting the following four requirements:
1. Learn how to use the motorbike controls.
2. Be equipped with helmet, eye protection, gloves and boots.
3. Have access to a flat, open, and safe space.
4. Set the motorbike speed at the minimum or a very slow speed.
LEVEL 1: DRIVING SITTING DOWN
Once these requirements are met, it is advisable to follow the next steps:
1. Make sure the engine is turned off.
2. With the kickstand down, the rider should get on the motorbike with adult supervision.
3. The rider then lifts the kickstand with his/her left foot with adult supervision.
4. The rider starts the motor by turning the key.
5. The rider can stretch his/her legs to the side and to the front with the footrests up.
6. The rider can begin to drive. The adult should keep a hand on the rear fender.
7. Once the rider gets used to the controls, the footrests can be lowered, and the rider can then try
to place his/her feet on them while driving.
8. Do not forget to turn off the engine once the ride is over.
Mecatecno children's off-road motorbikes are NOT designed to be used on highways, public roads
or sidewalks. Review local laws before using the motorbike.
LEVEL 2: DRIVING STANDING UP
The speed can be progressively increased as the rider gets used to the motorbike controls and
his/her skill improves. It is recommended that the adult teach the rider to adopt a suitable driving
position. After learning to control the accelerator at a low speed, the rider should rotate his/her wrist
around the accelerator so that it remains in the correct position when he/she stands up. The acce-
lerator dead zone is smaller the faster the motorbike speed limit, which makes it easier to stand up
and use the accelerator.
1. With the rider on the stationary motorbike, an adult will hold onto the rider's waist from behind.
2. The rider will raise his/her back into a position so that his/her weight is not on his/her hands.
3. When this is done at a low speed, the adult can help the rider rotate his/her wrist around the acce-
lerator just enough so that the rider's wrist is in the proper position.
4. When ready, the rider can start to slowly accelerate. The adult should follow alongside the rider to
assist him/her.
3. ADVANCED TECHNIQUES
TURNS
1. Driving in a straight line, the rider can try tilting the motorbike slightly from side to side to see how
it affects the turn.
2. Sharp turns require the rider to let the motorbike lean towards the inside.
3. The outside knee should point out and the weight of the rider should fall onto the outside footrest.
4. The foot on the outside footrest can also turn to the outside.
5. Make a right angle between your shoulder and the inside arm bent straight towards the handlebar.
Many techniques come from dominating turns. Learning depends on the rider's control over the
motorbike with respect to posture, balance and accelerator control.

5.5.6 Battery protector
Dismantle the battery protector when thoroughly
cleaning the motorbike so that leaves or other
items do not accumulate inside causing drainage
problems.
