SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
 READ CAREFULLY THE WARNINGS AND THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE
The modulator is one of the elements of the safety chain. Therefore, it must be used with components complying with the standards.
The only body harness allowed in a fall arrest system is a full body harness.
The November 1989 European Directive N° 89/656/EEC states that personal protective equipment is designed
for individual use only.
A rescue plan must be established in case an emergency situation should occur during the operations.
The user – or any other person – should not dismantle/reassemble, or alter the modulator.
If the modulator was used to stop a fall, for safety reasons, it is essential not to use it again before having it inspected
(See section XI).
The rope is a textile product. Therefore, it shall not be placed on a sharp edge, which might cause the rope to begin to tear.
This equipment is a safety system. Any doubt or anomaly concerning its condition, or its incompatibility with the task assigned should be reported to the person
in charge.
It is essential:
-To use the rope designed by the manufacturer.
-To send back immediately the product for checking if it has been subjected to substantial traction.
Should the product not run properly, the manufacturer is the only person allowed to dismantle, or replace some components.
The manufacturer should not be held responsible for the use of a different rope from the rope provided.
VIII.
MAINTENANCE
The modulator must be washed with soft water, and let to dry away from a source of heat.
The mechanical components must be washed with soft water, and wiped with a non abrasive cloth while avoiding direct sources of heat.
IX.
TRANSPORT AND STORAGE
This equipment is a safety system.
Any fall or shock must be avoided during transport and storage.
X.
INSPECTION BEFORE USE
Before each use of the modulator, the user shall carry out a visual inspection and make sure that:
1)
The two flanges swivel freely around the main axis, and the clearance is not too wide around this axis.
2)
The eccentric swivels freely around the axis, and the clearance is not too wide around this axis.
3)
The handle runs freely,
4)
There is a safety knot at the end of the slack strand of the rope.
The Modulator will be ready to be used only after this inspection has been done.
Before each use, it is necessary to check the compatibility of this device with the other equipment used, and ask the manufacturer for advice in case of doubt.
If any question concerning the product's safety, it shall be removed from service.
XI.
PERIODIC CHECKING
The regulation states that periodic checking must be carried out by a trained person, who will not be the user, at least once a year. (It may be performed by the
product's manufacturer).
Inspection should be more frequent depending on the ageing of the modulator, its frequency of use, and possible harsh conditions of use (oil, mud, dust, etc.).
The rope used daily or frequently in harsh conditions (chemicals, oil, solvents, dust, etc.), shall be automatically taken out of service after 3 years.
The modulator should be removed from service in case of wear of mechanical components, especially the eccentric part in aluminium.
If the modulator is used less frequently, and if it is stored in accordance with our instructions (See section IX), the person carrying the control shall be particularly
vigilant when it exceeds 5 years old ; a special attention must be given to the rope, whose duration will not exceed 10 years.
XII.
COMPULSORY TRAINING IN THE USE OF PPE
The workers who use personal protective equipment should follow an appropriate training course
(European Directive N° 89/656/EEC, section II, clause4 § 8).
