6 MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT/INSTALLATION
In practice, the adjustment is easily performed in a
matter of seconds. However, for the first time, we
suggest that you follow the instructions here after.
1. Instal the FMS 100 probe, ensuring that it is
2. Connect the probe to the corresponding
3. Set the end-stop screw 1 (Fig. 5) in such a way
4. Mount the insert-holder 5 and the insert 6.
5. Place the measuring insert against the master

parallel to the measuring plane.

that the probe is approximately at eletronic
zero (the probe is so adjusted at the factory
that the mobile part of the probe is centered in
relation to the fixed part at electronic zero).
Align and tighten the measuring insert 6 (Fig.

piece (or component to be measured) and
finally tighten the insert-holder.
to ensure that the measuring insert is really
touching the master piece.
7. Now adjust the electronic zero as follows:
• Move the mobile coil 4 (Fig. 5) by means
of screws 2 and 3 (Fig. 5) until the probe is
within ± 10 microns of electronic zero. You
will have to alternate in turning screws 2 and
3 because screw 2 tightens the coil. When
adjustment is just about complete, end up
by tightening screw 3 (to ensure that the coil
is tightly held).
8. Once the adjusment of electronic zero has
been completed, remove the master piece in
order to adjust the free run of the probe. Set
the mobile part to electronic zero by means
of the end-stop screw 1 (the probe should
no longer be touching the master piece).
Withdraw by 0.2 to 0.3 mm (or more, this
figure being dependent on the tolerance to be
allowed on the component to be measured)
from electronic zero by turning the end-stop
screw.
