ENERGY CHECK 3000
Item no. 12 21 81
INTRODUCTION
Dear customer,
By purchasing the „Energy Check 3000", you have acquired a state-of-the-art power/energy
measuring device. With the measuring device you can very simply determine the power as well
as energy consumption of electrical devices and compare these with the provided
specifications of a device (according to type plate or user manual).
You can ask about current energy consumption information on electrical devices,
for example, at a consumer advice office.
In addition the „Energy Check 3000" can determine the cost of electricity for the connected
equipment in one of two periods of your choice. For this it is necessary to enter the current rate.
„Energy Check 3000" has been tested for safety and for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
and thus meets the requirements of the applicable European and national directives.
Proof of conformity has been submitted and the manufacturer has the corresponding
documents on file. We kindly request the user to follow the operating instructions, to preserve
this condition and to ensure safe operation!
These operating instructions relate to this product. They contain important notices on commis-
sioning and handling. Pay attention to this also when you hand this product over to a third per-
son. Please keep these instructions for further reference! Always observe the specified safety
instructions!
AREA OF APPLICATION
• The measuring device „Energy Check 3000" was developed to measure the following
electrical measurement units:
- Power (W)
- Energy consumption per hour (kWh)
- Energy consumption in an individually chosen measuring period (kWh)
- Energy consumption in an individually chosen measuring period (currency unit)
- The lowest measured electrical power within the individually chosen measuring period (W)
- The highest measured electrical power within the individually chosen measuring period (W)
• The measuring range of „Energy Check 3000" spans from 1.5 W to max. 3000 W. If these
limits are over-exceeded or under-exceeded, exact measurements will no longer be
possible. Besides, the device would be overloaded by exceeding the 3000 W measuring
range limit, and thus destroyed!
• „Energy Check 3000" uses 230 V AC voltage and functions without batteries. The entered
electricity rate data is not lost during a power outage.
• It is not permitted to operate this equipment in damp rooms, outdoors, or under adverse
environmental conditions. Adverse environmental conditions are:
- Moisture or excessive humidity
- Dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvents.
- strong vibrations
Any use other than that described above will damage the product and may involve
other risks, such as short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc. Do not change or modify
any part of the product! Always observe the safety instructions!
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
We do not accept any liability for personal injury or damage to property
caused by incorrect handling or non-observance of the operating
instructions or the safetyinstructions. The warranty will be rendered null and
void in such cases.
• „Energy Check 3000" left the factory in perfect condition in terms of safety engineering. We
kindly request the user to observe the safety instructions and warnings contained in this
operating manual to preserve this condition and to ensure safe operation!
• The manufacturer and the dealer do not assume any responsibility for incorrect
measurement results or any consequences that may result.
• This product may not be used for medical purposes or for public information.
• The device is only suitable for a supply voltage of 230 V~/50 Hz. Never try to operate the
appliance with another voltage.
• „Energy Check 3000" is manufactured compliant to insulation class I and it may only be
connected to a socket with a protective earth contact.
• Make sure that the earth wire is not interrupted as, in case of an error, there could be danger
to life. Further, ensure that the insulation is neither damaged nor destroyed.
• The product is not a toy and has no place in the hands of children.
• In commercial and industrial facilities the regulations for the prevention of accidents as laid
down by the professional trade association for electrical equipment and devices need to be
observed.
• In schools, training centres, computer and self-help workshops, the use of measuring instru-
ments and accessories must be supervised by trained personnel in a responsible manner.
®
• Only operate „Energy Check 3000" with the housing securely closed and screwed down.
• Avoid using the device under unfavourable environmental conditions. These lead to the pro-
°
duct being damaged and danger to life by an electric shock! Adverse environmental
Version 09/11
conditions are:
- Excess air humidity (> 75% rel. humidity, condensation)
- Dampness
- Dust, inflammable gases, vapours, solvents, petrol
- excessive (> +40°C) or insufficient (< 10°C) environmental temperatures
• If you have reason to assume that safe operation is no longer possible, disconnect the
device immediately and secure it against inadvertent operation. Under the following
conditions, safe operation must be presumed to be no longer possible:
- the device shows visible damage
- the device does not function
- the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- if it has been subject to considerable stress in transit.
• Never connect „Energy Check 3000" to the power socket immediately after bringing it in from
a cold to a warm room. Condensation water that forms might, under unfavourable conditions,
destroy your device. Let „Energy Check 3000" first reach room temperature without power
connection.
• The technical data of this device can be altered without prior notice.
RATE ENTRY / CONNECTION / MEASUREMENT
Rate entry
Before measurements you can enter the rate settings in your „Energy Check 3000". The device
offers the option to store two different rates. These will not be lost even in the case of power
outage and erasing of the stored measurements.
You can find the rate information on your latest electricity bill. There you will also
find the required electricity consumption rate (e.g. cents/kWh).
The price display is not limited to any specific currency unit. Therefore there is also a „costs/h"
qualifier on the display. Euro is used as the currency in the following examples.
Connect the „Energy Check 3000" to a 230 V protected earth socket as required by the
instruction rules, and enter the rates as follows:
Rate I:
• Simultaneously press down and hold the „STA/STP", „ON TIME" and „MODE" buttons for
about 4 seconds.
• The device switches to rate entry mode and the display shows the current rate I setting in
costs per kWh (0.00/kWh). The right decimal place blinks.
• Set the number of the decimal place by using the button „ON TIME".
• Then press the „STA/STP" button. You come to the next decimal place.
• Repeat the above steps until all the places hold the values you want.
• Press once the „MODE" button to save the settings for rate I and to leave the rate entry
mode.
Rate II:
• Simultaneously press down and hold the „STA/STP", „ON TIME" and „MODE" buttons for
about 4 seconds. The device switches to rate entry mode and the display shows the current
rate I settings.
• Press and hold the „MODE" button once again for approx. 4 seconds. The device switches
next to rate entry mode for rate II.
• Repeat for rate II the steps described for setting rate I.
• Press once the „MODE" button to save the settings for rate II and to leave the rate entry
mode.
You can also enter rate II directly after entering rate I. After entering the numbers
for rate I press the „MODE" button for approx. 4 seconds. You then come to rate
entry mode for rate II.
