Certain dust, such as oak or beech dust, is considered carci-
nogenic, especially in connection with wood-treatment ad-
ditives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing
asbestos may only be worked by specialists.
– Provide for good ventilation of the working place.
– It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator.
Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the ma-
terials to be worked.
Avoid dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can
u
easily ignite.
Operation
Starting Operation
Pay attention to the mains voltage. The voltage of the
u
power source must match the voltage specified on the
rating plate of the power tool. Power tools marked
with 230 V can also be operated with 220 V.
Products that are only sold in AUS and NZ: Use a resid-
u
ual current device (RCD) with a nominal residual current
of 30 mA or less.
Setting the Rotational Direction
The rotational direction switch (6) is used to change the ro-
tational direction of the power tool. However, this is not pos-
sible while the on/off switch (4) is being pressed.
Clockwise rotation: For drilling and screwdriving, press the
rotational direction switch (6) downwards to "R".
Anticlockwise rotation: For loosening and unscrewing
screws and nuts, press the rotational direction switch (6)
upwards to "L".
Mechanical Gear Selection
Only operate the gear selector (2) when the power
u
tool is not in use.
You can preselect two speed ranges with the gear selector
(2).
Gear I:
Low speed range; for working with a
large drilling diameter
Gear II:
High speed range; for working with a
small drilling diameter.
If the gear selector switch (2) cannot be swivelled all the way
to the stop, turn the drive spindle slightly with the drill.
Switching on/off
To start the power tool, press and hold the on/off switch
(4).
Push the lock-on button (3) upwards to lock
the pressed on/off switch (4) in position.
To switch off the power tool, release the on/
off switch (4); or, if the switch is locked with
Bosch Power Tools
the lock-on button (3), briefly press the on/off switch (4)
and then release it.
Adjusting the Speed
You can adjust the speed of the power tool when it is on by
pressing in the on/off switch (4) to varying extents.
A light pressure on the on/off switch (4) results in a low rota-
tional speed. Increased pressure on the switch causes an in-
crease in speed.
Practical advice
After working at a low speed for an extended period, you
should operate the power tool at the maximum speed for ap-
proximately three minutes without load to cool it down.
When drilling into metal, only use sharpened HSS drills (HSS
= high-speed steel) which are in perfect condition. The
Bosch accessory range guarantees appropriate quality.
Using the drill bit sharpener (accessory), you can effortlessly
sharpen twist drill bits with a diameter of 2.5–10 mm.
Use a drill stand (accessory) for jobs that require particular
precision.
The machine vice, which is available as an accessory, en-
ables the workpiece to be securely clamped. This prevents
the workpiece from turning and any accidents this could
cause.
Maintenance and Service
Maintenance and Cleaning
Pull the plug out of the socket before carrying out any
u
work on the power tool.
To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep
u
the power tool and the ventilation slots clean.
In order to avoid safety hazards, if the power supply cord
needs to be replaced, this must be done by Bosch or by an
after-sales service centre that is authorised to repair Bosch
power tools.
