1.0 Product description
Ex-level probes are used to detect pressures. The output is a 4-20mA standard electrical signal that can be used for remote transmission or
for direct display. The level probes are equipped with pressure sensors and have a metallic socket. The devices may not be used for other
purposes and may only be operated within the permissible operating limits.
1.1 Preparation
The pressure tapping point should be prepared according to the instructions for tapped holes. Further information can, for example, be
found on Page 3 of the VDE/VDI Guidelines 3512. After establishing the electrical connection, the level probes are ready for immediate
operation. Avoid damage to the type plate; the order/production number must remain legible to ensure traceability.
2.0 Electrical data/connection
Ex-level probes may only be operated on a certified and intrinsically safe circuit with the following maximum values. When used in areas
requiring category 2G or 2D equipment, the following values apply:

Application area

Maximum input voltage
Maximum input current
Maximum power input
Maximum internal capacitance C
Maximum internal inductance
Ambient-/
process-temperature range
*An intense electrostatic charging of the cable on category 2D equipment have to be avoided!
The exact connections can be found in the connection diagram. Further connections and the required auxiliary power supply are noted on
the typing plate on the housing.
2.1 Current output and terminal designation
Note:
The cable shielding should preferably be connected on one side and outside the ex-zone according to EN 60079-14.
With an electrically isolated mounting of the level probes to the ground, a leakage resistance of 1 MOhm is required. The max. cable
length is Lmax = 400 mtr.
3.0 Commissioning
Before commissioning, check respective application suitability. In particular, observe permissible ambient and operating conditions. The
level probe is an electrical device according to EN 50178. Before commissioning, all ex-relevant characteristics of the interconnected
equipment and the level probe must be checked for correct circuit type connection.
3.1 Safety instruction
Observe the valid safety regulations during mounting, commissioning and operation. Failure to comply with the relevant regulations may
result in personal injury and/or damage to property. Only appropriately qualified personnel may work on these devices.
4.0 Connection instructions
In principle, the ordinance on electrical systems in potentially explosive areas must be observed. When connecting the appropriate equip-
ment, the electrical data must be observed. Furthermore, make sure that the permissible ambient/process temperature ranges specified in
the temperature classes are not exceeded.
5.0 Service and maintenance work
The level probe described here does not have to be serviced. It has no components that need to be repaired or replaced on site. Repairs
must be carried out exclusively in the manufacturer's factory.
Depending on the conditions of use, the level probe should be checked once a year for compliance with its specifications and readjusted if
necessary. Repairs must be carried out exclusively by the manufacturer.
