TUF Tool:
To ease the abrasive strip insertion a
TUF Tool (Take-Up Fastener Tool) is
supplied with each machine.
Insert the hook into the outside hole in
the end of the take-up lever of the
fastener.
Fig 10
Lift the lever with the TUF Tool,
pulling the lever up until it touches the
inside of the drum, turn counter-
clockwise and clamp the sanding
paper.
Fig 11
Insert the tapered end of the abrasive
strip.
Release the lever on its proper
position.
Always remove TUF Tool from the
machine.

7.2 Selecting drum abrasives

It is important to select the proper grit
of abrasives for the type of sanding
being performed to achieve maximum
sanding results.
First begin sanding with coarser grit,
then progressively work towards finer
grits.
Never jump more than one grit grade.
Grits that are too fine and worn
sanding paper can burnish the wood.
Grit 36: Stock and glue removal.
Grit 60: Surfacing and dimensioning.
Grit 80:
Surfacing, light dimensioning, most
popular grade.
Grits 100 and 120:
Surfacing and finishing.
Grits 150, 180 and 220:
Finish sanding only.

7.3 Cleaning drum abrasives

Regularly clean the abrasive strips on
the drum with the supplied cleaning
stick.
This will remove the deposits and help
extend sandpaper life.
Warning:
Always wear tight fitting clothes
and eye protection. Keep alert
during this operation to avoid
injury.
Operate the sanding drum with the
dust cover open.
Hold the cleaning stick (Fig12) against
the rotating drum and move it along
the drum surface.
It is good procedure to use a shop
brush to remove any cleaning stick
crumbs before resuming sanding
operation.

Abrasive life can also be increased by
reversing the trailing and starting end
of the strip.
This will provide a fresh set of cutting
edges on the abrasive.

7.4 Drum alignment

Disconnect the machine from the
power source (pull mains plug).
Remove the abrasive strip from the
drum and use a straight edge or ruler
(Fig 13) as a thickness gauge.
Fig 13
Insert the gauge between the drum
and the conveyor bed and inspect for
parallel contact.
To align the drum, loosen the four hex
bolts (1 and 2, Fig14).
This allows the entire drum carriage to
pivot on two bolts (1, Fig14).
Fig 14
Align the drum by turning the fine tune
adjustment knob (5, Fig14).
When drum is parallel tighten the four
hex bolts.
