Requirements in Hazardous
Locations
The original language of these instructions is US English.
The data that follows is only applicable to equipment with
the specified marking details.
The equipment for use in potentially explosive
atmospheres is listed for use in 'Divisions' or 'Zones'
classified hazardous locations.
Before installing and using the equipment, read and
understand all the related data. This includes: all local
safety procedures and installation standards (for example:
U.S. National Electrical Code NFPA 70 or Canadian
Electrical Code C22.1), this document, user instruction
document or specification drawing (if applicable) and
control drawing X-A3-0471.
To install and use the equipment in potentially explosive
atmospheres ("hazardous locations"), use only approved
engineers who have the necessary skills and qualifications.
WARNING
Do not use tools on the
transmitter that cause incendive sparks - this
can cause an explosion.
Do not do live maintenance while explosive
atmospheres is present - this can cause an
explosion. Refer to connections to other
equipment for permitted work.
Description
Description
The PTX661 Hammer Union Pressure Transmitter
assembly comprises a PTX721-8518 pressure transmitter
contained in a sensor housing with a WECO® male sub
pressure connection. A backend assembly and circlip seals
the pressure housing.
Marking details
Refer to Figure A1, and the explanation below:
1. Model number.
2. Serial number and year of manufacture.
3. Name and address of the manufacturer.
4. FM approvals logo. FM approvals markings.
5. Environmental protection.
On the original items, the marking details on the PTX661
assembly and the PTX721-8518 are the same. A
replacement PTX721-8518 will have a different serial
number. Make sure that all the other markings are the
same.
Transmitter Materials
The materials used for the primary enclosure and pressure
bearing surfaces are identified in the product datasheet or
on the specification drawing (if applicable). Make sure the
materials are applicable for the installation.
Installation
If attached, remove the optional handle from the assembly.
Before use, remove the plastic/rubber protection cap from
the pressure connector.
External Temperature Limits
The permitted ambient temperature range for the
equipment is -40°C to +80°C. Make sure the process media
also stays within these limits.
Position
Attach the equipment in a safe configuration that prevents
unwanted stress (vibration, physical impact, shock,
mechanical and thermal stresses). Do not install the
equipment where it can be damaged by a material that
causes corrosion. Give additional protection for equipment
that may be damaged in service.
Ingress Protection
As specified by the certification, the correctly installed
enclosure must have a minimum ingress protection rating
of NEMA4X/IP66.
When installed, the electrical connectors and wiring must
have a minimum IP rating of IP20 for indoor locations or
IP54 for outdoor locations.
Electrical Connections
Connect the earth/ground connections that are applicable
to the installation. If applicable, make sure the cable screen
is isolated from the transmitter.
The equipment is resistant to an AC test voltage of
500 Vrms as specified in ANSI/ISA 60079-11 and
CSA C22.2 E60079-11.
Installation of the transmitter assemblies to associated
intrinsically safe apparatus must be in accordance with
control drawing X-A3-0471.
The electrical terminals for each of the electrical connector
options are defined in the user instruction document
KA0233.
Connections to Other Equipment
Before connecting a diagnostic device make sure it is
certified "intrinsically safe", all electrical connections must
be intrinsically safe.
Stay within the permitted limits for the electrical system.
Maintenance
Clean the case with a moist, lint-free cloth and a weak
detergent.
Repair and Replacement
WARNING
Do not replace the PTX721-8518
in a hazardous area while explosive
atmospheres are present - this can cause an
explosion.
Do not do local repairs. Return the equipment to the
manufacturer or an approved service agent. To replace the
PTX721-8518, refer to document KA0234. Refer also to
"Marking details".
Special Conditions for Safe Use
If the equipment uses plastic parts, these are a possible
electrostatic hazard. Do not rub or clean them with a dry
cloth.
The electrical connectors and/or connector caps may
contain aluminum. Make sure this is safe to use in the
installation, and that the transmitter has protection from
impact or friction.
