SAFETY WARNINGS FOR BENCH GRINDERS
Choose the right grinding wheel
Warning: • Never try to use wheels with diameters bigger than the size appropriate for the tool.
• Never use wheels that are damaged in any way. Otherwise they could break and get thrown out towards the operator.
• Only use grinding wheels that are compatible with the machine's maximum rpm.
• Only use grinding wheels with an orifice matching the tool axis.
• Use the right grinding wheel for the task at hand, considering the material that is to be processed.
Before operating the bench grinder
Warning: • Ensure that the wheel guard is not damaged or worn in any way and correctly fastened. Do not use the machine without the wheel guard.
• Ensure that the wheel is not broken or cracked. Hit the wheel lightly with a wood hammer. The resulting sound will indicate whether the wheel
is cracked. Replace the wheel immediately if it is broken.
• Ensure that the switch is in the OFF position before plugging the plug of the power cord into a socket in order to prevent unintentional starting
of the machine which could cause severe injuries.
• Turn on the bench grinder and let it run for 30 seconds before using to detect considerable vibrations or any type of unusual movement. If the
machine vibrates intensely or the wheel moves abnormally, disconnect the machine and send it to an authorized service center for repairs.
• Ensure that the wheel runs smoothly. Do not tighten the wheel excessively, otherwise it could break.
• Fix small workpieces in vices or similar clamping devices. Never use your hands to hold a workpiece.
While operating the bench grinder
Warning: • Keep your fingers at a safe distance from the grinding wheel.
• Do not start the machine if the wheel is touching the workpiece.
• Wear personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, protective gloves, hearing protection and a work apron when operating the tool.
• Keep the cord or extension cord behind the tool to prevent it from being accidentally damaged by the grinding wheel.
• Do not touch the grinding wheel or the workpiece immediately after grinding. Touch them only once they has cooled down sufficiently. Do not
try to cool down the wheel or the workpiece using water or oil.
• Always turn off the tool and disconnect the plug of the power cord from the socket before checking, adjusting or replacing the grinding wheel.
• During operation of the bench grinder, sparks are generated which can be dangerous if adequate measures are not taken. Ensure that sparks
will not come into contact with skin or flammable surfaces.
• Prevent damage due to jamming, sliding or movement of the workpiece. Ensure that all vices and clamping devices are tight and that no part
moves excessively.
• If a small piece gets stuck inside the guard, turn off the machine immediately, disconnect the power cord plug from the socket and wait until
all moving parts stop completely before trying to remove the stuck piece.
ASSEMBLY
• Mount the tool on a bench or work table. Fix the base with bolts (may not be included).
• The surface on which the tool is to be placed must be perfectly flat and there should be enough space
around the unit so as to ensure safe operation.
Mount the accessories
• Before mounting accessories, switch the tool off and disconnect the power cord plug from the socket.
• The accessories must be mounted so as to ensure efficient and safe operation. Do not run the tool if the
accessories are not installed.
• The tool includes accessories for both wheels (left and right). Figure 1 shows the correct way to mount the
right side of the tool. Repeat the same procedure to mount the left side wheel.
• Ensure that the accessories are mounted on the correct side of the machine.
• The smaller screws and washer kits are needed to fix the spark arrester guards (B).
• To adjust the eye protectors (C) in their mounting rods, loosen and tighten the hex screws (D). Loosen
enough to be able to easily adjust the eye protectors with your hand but not too much to ensure that they
stay in place. Always position the eye protector between your eyes and the grinding wheel.
