5. PRE-USE INSPECTION
A pre-use inspection of the Globestock WINCH must be conducted prior to use. Perform your pre-use inspections
according to the specifications below.

5.1. VISUAL INSPECTION
i.
Inspect and confirm the formal inspection record of the Globestock WINCH.
ii.
Inspect and confirm that all product labels are present and legible.
iii.
Inspect the Globestock WINCH for structural damage and corrosion. Verify that all fixings are tight; that there
are no missing or altered parts; that there are no cracks, deformations, or deep cuts in the housing or karabiner.
iv.
Inspect and confirm the gate locking function of the karabiner.
v.
Inspect the ferrules and thimble at the karabiner and confirm there is no evidence of kinks, corrosion, or
excessive wear in the winch line.
vi.
Inspect any mounting brackets attached to the Globestock WINCH and confirm they are in good condition.

5.2. TEST ANTI-RUN BRAKE MECHANISM
i.
With the winch crank arm removed from the winch, lift, and hold the anti-run brake pawl to disengage the anti-
run brake mechanism.
ii.
Pull the winch line to extract it from the rope drum and release the anti-run brake pawl.
iii.
Confirm the anti-run brake mechanism engages and prevents any further rope being extracted from the rope
drum.
WARNING
Always read the manufacturer instructions supplied with the mounting brackets prior to
use.
IMPROPER USE MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
WARNING
Inspect the Globestock WINCH before every use according to the criteria below.
Remove the Globestock WINCH from service and quarantine immediately if it fails any of
the pre-use inspections. Consult the manufacturer or a competent person if you have any
doubts about any of the inspection criteria.

WARNING
Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be worn when using this equip-
ment.
Wear gloves to protect your hands when inspecting or handling the winch line.
