Disconnecting the VARICOMP Overexcitation Device
The device (optional) consists of a current transformer (CT) and an electronic card and is used in some generators for the
overexcitation in case of sudden overload or short circuit. In case the auxiliary PMG exciter is added, the VARICOMP device (if
present) can no longer be used: it is therefore necessary to completely disconnect this device, i.e. remove the electronic card
and the current transformer (or short circuit the terminals of CT ).
12. TROUBLE SHOOTING AND REPAIRS
As for any anomalies, refer to the use and maintenance manual of the generator: in addition to usual checks, it is in any case
possible to check whether the PMG is working properly by measuring the voltage it supplies to the electrical output terminals.
This measure is to be made with the generator at rated speed and after disconnecting the PMG from the voltage regulator: the
voltage supplied by the auxiliary PMG exciter should be about 200-240 V (with a speed of 1500 rpm).
13. MAINTENANCE
The auxiliary PMG exciter does not require special maintenance: during maintenance operations of the alternator or generator
always check the tightness of the screws and the integrity of the wiring system.
If more information on the application are required, please contact Marelli Service, whose reference data are shown below.
