TRANSPORT AND STORAGE
The PMG auxiliary exciter, when provided separately from the machine, is delivered ready for installation. It is recommended to
inspect it carefully on arrival, to make sure it has not been damaged during transport. Any visible damage should be directly
notified to the carrier involved and to Marelli Motori.
Also, make sure that all the components that allow properly assembling the component on the alternator were made available.
If the machine is meant to be stored for a long time in a damp environment, it is necessary to dry the windings before
commissioning.
5.
PRELIMINARY CHECKS AND PREPARING FOR INSTALLATION
Before installation:
verify that the mechanical and electrical characteristics of the PMG match the mechanical and electrical characteristics of
the alternator;
make sure that the coupling surfaces are clean;
check that the rotor is free of any metal deposits;
verify that the insulation resistance of the stator is greater than 5 MΩ.
Preparation of the generator:
a)
remove the protections (45) on the non-drive side of the generator;
b)
check that the shaft extension on the non-drive side of the generator is suitable for the PMG;
c)
check that the shield on the non-drive side of the generator is fitted (mounting flange and mounting holes) for mounting the
stator of the PMG;
d)
remove the cover (130) protecting the bearing on the non-drive side of the generator.
At the end of the PMG installation (see Chapter 6-7-8) reassemble the protections previously removed (45).
6.
INSTALLATION: TYPES OF PMG
Marelli Motori offers two different types of PMG, depending on the Marelli generator frame size it is mounted on.
See the following table:

PMG - double bearing
The sizes 160 and 200 do require additional adaptation. For further information please contact Marelli Service.
