Thermal energy transfer
Thermal resistance test bench
Ref : 253 118
1. Description
This test bench is designed to determine the materials thermal resistance. This device is
based on the unit used for the standard measurement of the material thermal
conductivity.
The sample with unknown thermal conductivity is placed between two metal blocks at a
known and chosen temperature change. The forced steady state is stabilized by the
energy coming from the upper block.
The interface between the device and the student allows the latter to manipulate all
variables involved in the equation implicated by the unit. When the manipulation starts,
the steady state which is necessary for obtaining correct values, is directly verified on the
device.
The results are also read on the test bench through a third menu. It tracks the thermal
resistance, the power supplied by the device equal to the heat flow, the thermal
conductivity as well as the voltage and current.
The removable part of the device is designed to insert samples with a maximum
thickness of 1 cm. They are less than the maximum limit thick and therefore allow
material combinations in order to verify the status of addition of thermal resistances.
