5.6 Headphones
To check a recording, stereo headphones with a
minimum impedance of 32 Ω may be connected
to the 6 .3 mm jack (12),
As long as headphones are connected
to this jack, the recording is not sent to the
amplifier .
6 Operation
To ensure a reliable function of the microphone
unit in an emergency situation, all operating
steps should once be made before the emer-
gency and the necessary adjustments (e . g . vol-
ume conditions) should be optimized . In addi-
tion, check the function regularly .
6.1 Announcement with
the hand-held microphone
For an announcement with the hand-held
microphone:
1) Open the door of the microphone unit . For
this purpose, after unlatching the lock, press
down the button PUSH at the left side of
the door so that the lever above it moves
upwards . Seize the lever to open the door . If
the door cannot be opened in case of emer-
gency, break the glass .
2) Take the hand-held microphone (1) from its
support and hold it close to your mouth .
3) Press the talk button (2) and keep it pressed
up to the end of the announcement . Speak
clearly into the microphone .
4) If required, readjust the microphone volume
with the control LEVEL (6) . For safety reasons,
there is a minimum volume even with the
control turned to the left stop .
5) If the switch COMPRESSION (7) is engaged,
the dynamic power will be limited which
reduces distortions with announcements of
very high volume .
Note: A siren started by an emergency message or an
automatic reproduction of a recording is muted while
using the hand-held microphone .
6.2 Recording of an announcement
1) Open the door of the microphone unit . If the
lock is not latched, press down the button
PUSH at the left side of the door so that the
lever above it moves upwards . Seize the lever
to open the door .
2) Unscrew the two screws of the cover plate
(13) and remove the plate so that the operat-
ing elements of the announcement recorder
are accessible .
3) Slide the switch MODE (14) to position REC .
4) Select the audio source with the switch (19):
"P .T .T ." hand-held microphone (1)
"EXT" an audio source connected to the
jacks EXT REC INPUT (26)
5) To delete a recording memorized before,
keep the button "Erase" (21) pressed for
10 s .
6) Adjust the recording level with the control
(23) . Turn up the control so far that the LED
"SIG" (22) lights up with the input signal .
If the LED "Clip" lights up, the level is too
high . Turn back the control correspondingly .
If the hand-held microphone (1) is se-
lected as the audio source, press the talk
button (2) while talking .
7) To start the recording, press the button
"Recording" (20) . The LED (17) lights up
while recording .
Note: The switch (15) must be in position "1 Time",
otherwise the recording does not start .
8) To end the recording, press the button
"Recording" again . The LED (17) will extin-
guish .
After reaching the recording time of 60 s
which is possible as a maximum, the record-
ing stops automatically .
Important: Always set the switch MODE (14) to
position "Play" again after finishing the record-
ing so that in case of emergency an automatic
announcement can be sent after the recording
and an emergency announcement with the
hand-held microphone is possible .
6.3 Reproduction of a recording
To check a recording:
1) With the cover (13) removed (
set the switch MODE (14) to position "Play" .
2) Select the reproduction frequency with the
switch (15):
"1 Time" one-time reproduction
"Repeat" continuously repeated reproduc-
tion
3) If the reproduction should not be heard via
the amplifier, connect headphones to the jack
(12) ( ☞ chapter 5 .6) .
4) To start the reproduction, press the button
"Play" (16) . The LED (17) flashes during
reproduction .
5) Adjust the reproduction volume with the
control (18) . For safety reasons, there is a
minimum volume with the control turned
to the left stop .
6) To stop the reproduction, press the button
"Play" (16) again .
7) If desired, remount the cover plate (13) as a
protection against unauthorized operation
of the announcement recorder .
6.4 Adjustment of the siren
If an emergency is signalled via the input E / M
TRIGGER (27), first a siren signal is sent to the
amplifier for approx . 8 s before the automatic
announcement starts .
By means of a small screwdriver the volume
of the siren sound can be changed . For safety
reasons there is a minimum volume with the
control turned to the left stop .
The type of the siren can be selected with
the switch SIREN (28):
FLAT first ascending, then steady sound
(880 Hz)
EU emergency signal according to DIN
33 404 / EN 457 (descending sound
1200 – 500 Hz, repeat frequency: 1 Hz)
Note: A change of the siren type only becomes effec-
tive after the amplifier is switched on again or after
interruption of the power supply .

7 Indication of Fault
and Emergency
If a fault occurs at the microphone unit, this is
signalled to the amplifier and indicated there . In
addition, the fault relay is switched at the ampli-
fier and thus offers versatile possibilities to call
attention to the fault . In addition to indication
via the amplifier, the LED "Fault" (5) lights up
at the microphone unit, e . g . in case of a defect
of the hand-held microphone or connection
cable . If the signal device (10) is switched on
[the switch (9) is engaged], a pulsating warning
sound is emitted in addition .
A malfunction of the microphone unit pro-
cessor is shown by the LED "CPU Error" . If the
supply voltage is too low, the LED "Power/Low
Voltage" (8) flashes .
If an emergency is signalled via the input
E / M TTRIGGER (27), first the selected siren signal

( chapter 6 .4) is sent to the amplifier for ap-
prox . 8 s, before the automatic announcement
starts and it is permanently repeated, if desired .
The indication "EMERGENCY" (3) flashes on
the microphone unit . If the signal device (10) is
switched on at the microphone unit [the switch

chapter 6 .2)
(9) is engaged], a permanent warning sound is
emitted in addition . In an emergency the am-
plifier supplies a switching voltage which may
be used to control emergency priority relays .
These relays bridge the local volume controls in
the PA zones concerned and thus ensure that
the emergency announcements can be heard
everywhere at maximum volume . All measures
for emergency indication described here stop
as soon as the contacts of the connection E / M
TRIGGER are separated again .
