Instruction manual
Inductive Sensor
BES M12EF2-PSC20B-BV02-X01
Order Code: BES05UC
Intended use
The inductive proximity switch is for use as contactless wearout-free limit switch in industrial control systems. It can be
mounted inside gas-hazardous areas that require equipment of category Class I Div. 2 (Zone 2), or dust-hazardous areas
that require equipment of category Class II Div.2, Class III (Zone 22). If there are additional regulations for the particular
design regarding the installation, they must be observed as well.
Safety instructions
• The safety of any system incorporating the equipment is the responsibility of the assembler of the system.
• If the device is not mounted and operated as described here, the protection provided by the equipment
maybe impaired.
• Only professionals with sufficient knowledge are allowed to install and operate the device.
• Prior to installation disconnect the system from power supply.
• Use the specified tightening torque for the nut from the table (Installation) during assembly.
• Comply with the provisions of the instruction manual.
• Comply with the national regulations and installation provisions.
• Absolutely abide by the conditions of acceptability.
Installation and operation
• Make sure that the device is used only in the area of application corresponding to its Ex marking.
• Do not modify the device (e.g. painting).
• Make sure that the housing of the proximity switch has electrical contact to a grounded metal structure.
• Ensure proper earting of the device upon installation.
• If necessary, use wire type that has a temperature rating ≥ Ta.
• Install cables according to the applicable regulations and protect them from damage.
• The device complies with the EMC requirements for proximity switches according to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No 60947-5-2-14.
• Cables longer than 30 m can require additional EMC measures.
• The cables have to be laid in cable trays according to Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, 24th Edition, 2018,
Rule 12-2202 and the requirements of the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code Edition 2017, appropriate provisions
of Article 725.
• Datasheet, examination certificate and MTTF values are available on request.
Conditions of Acceptability
• The instruction manual must be consulted for technical data which are not included in the Ex-marking of the
sensor (maximum values, ambient temperature ranges, manufacturer address).
• Markings that are not on the device will be found in this instruction manual.
• To be supplied by an approved/certified Class 2 output source not exceeding 32Vdc and as defined in CEC Part 1
Section 16 and NEC NFPA 70 Article 725 for equipment installation.
• The enclosure is capable of withstanding only low level (4J) of mechanical impact and hence additional protection
shall be provided to ensure equipment is not subjected to higher level mechanical impact.
• The equipment shall be protected from excessive UV light emission.
• For installation in Zone 22, Group III dust atmospheres: When using equipment types with a plastic surface
greater than 500 mm², installation of the equipment must ensure that no electrostatic charging of the non-metallic
parts of the housing can occur.
• The integral cable shall be terminated in a suitably rated terminal or junction box.
• End-user shall ensure proper earthing of the device upon installation.
