14 Product description
The AL20... or AL40... is a light grid preferably used for access monitoring on elevators.
It consists of a transmitter and a receiver unit. The complete evaluation electronics as
well as the power supply is integrated in the devices. No additional external components
are required for operation. The AL20... or AL40... elevator light grid is equipped with
beam masking. IIf dirt or dust are present, "defective beams" are automatically masked
after 1 minute. The entire light grid is not deactivated until 2 adjacent beams or more than
half of all beams fail. AL20.../AL40 light grids are delivered with automatic switching bet-
ween 5X cross-out and standard operating mode as standard features.The light grid se-
lects the "5X cross-out" operating mode between the transmitter and receiver at a
distance of greater than 0.7 m. In this operating mode, each receiver evaluates the be-
ams of 5 transmitters. 5X cross-out thus increases resolution to 194 beams for the
AL40... and 94 beams for the AL20... . At shorter distances the light grid switches into
standard operating mode with single evaluation.

15 Commisioning
A Reed relay is located on the receiver side behind the plastic cover. It can be parame-
terized with the magnet included with delivery. The position of this relay is noted on the
manufacturer's plate. The rod magnet should be held parallel to the plastic cover and as
close to it as possible.
The programming of the light-dark switching mode and the 7-segment
display only work if the uppermost light beam (synchronization channel)
is not interrupted; i.e. measuring from the upper end of the light grid, the
range of approximately 38 to 43 cm, should not be interrupted!
There are 7 LEDs directly under the relay that are arranged similarly to a 7-segment dis-
play. All information is distributed through this display.
