she participated
in twenty-two missions against strategic
Axis
targets before multiple
engine
failures 0n the twenty-second mission forced
the
airCratt
to
land in neutral Sweden. Thouoh

Baby
upon her
delivery in lvlarch of 1944. the

to the final series

Sweden's neutrality.

veteran
Flying
Fortress
was interned
and
converted into
an
airliner
for
civilian use.
Eventually,
this
venerable
warbird
was
purchased by
the
French
government
and utilized

mapping
and
survey work.
The aircraft was retired in i961 and she was virtually abandoned on an airfield near
Criel,
France.
Although restored
B-17's
had
been preserved
in various museums.
