Instructions for setting up
Responsibility for implementation in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC lies with the
planner of the machine or system into which these pumps are installed.
Well ventilated.
Oxygenation in the vicinity of the pump poses and increased fire hazard.
The discharge air ducts for the device need to be designed so that the gas is exhausted out
of the building. The pipes need to be arranged so that any condensate that forms cannot
flow back into the pump. If necessary, a collecting sump has to be installed. The material of
the discharge air ducts needs to be made of steel of copper. Plastic pipes pose a fire risk.
If the discharge air ducts are long, the diameter of the pipes needs to be greater than that
of the pump outputs.
It needs to be ensured that there is no grease, plastic or residual metal in the inlet or outlet
ducts. The inside of the ducts needs to be absolutely grease- and oil-free.
Valves or vanes in the discharge air ducts are not permitted on principle.
Seals in the discharge air ducts need to be either metallic or made of a material that has a
BAM test certificate acc. to Data sheet M034-1- List of the non-metallic materials.
The pump may be operated only with up to 50 mbar overpressure in the discharge air duct.
Otherwise the temperatures in the device will increase. The operating licence becomes void
in this case.
The discharge air duct needs to be checked regularly to make sure it is not obstructed.
Operate the pump with as dry air as possible. The presence of water increases the loss of
oil of the device, because oil may adhere to any water droplets and be carried out of the
device. This process does not inhibit the function of the device. Various gas ballast valves
are available to avoid condensing in the suction flow.

Operating instructions
4.1 Intended use
The intended use of the U 5.71-301 O
The setting up of the vacuum pump in explosive areas (EX zones, especially as defined by the German
Explosionsschutzverordnung (Explosion Protection Act)) as well as the use of the vacuum pump in areas
with ionised radiation is not permitted.
The vacuum pump is not suitable for conveying:
-
flammable gases or vapours
-
corrosive media
-
explosive gases or vapours
-
radioactive or toxic media
-
pyrophoric substances
Prior to starting up the vacuum pump, check that the media to be pumped by the
vacuum pressure are compatible with one another, to ensure that no dangerous con-
ditions can occur.
In the event of contamination with organic substances, the pump must be shut down
immediately and dismantled and cleaned by a specialist company (Becker Service).
There is a risk of explosion!
-PACK from Gebr. Becker is to generate vacuum pressure.
