NOTES ON RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
-
The product is equipped with a permanently installed rechargeable battery that
doesn't need replacement. Do not open the device to replace the accumulator
or to recharge it. The recharging of the battery takes place via the inbuilt solar
cells.
-
The radio wall clock is supplied with power at night via the rechargeable battery.
No further power supply is necessary. With a fully charged battery, an operating
time of approx. one year is possible even with an operation in total darkness.
-
Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown
into a fi re. There is a risk of explosion!
INSTALLATION/SETUP
The radio wall clock can stand on an even surface or hang on the wall.
-
For the setup of the device, fold out the two feet (9).
-
For wall mounting there are suspension eyes on the device's rear.
Choose a bright location, ideally close to a window, in order for the solar
cells to get enough light to charge the inbuilt accumulator suffi ciently
and in a fail-safe manner.
For interference-free DCF reception, the radio wall clock should not be
hung or placed close to other electronic devices, cables, metal items,
etc.

INITIAL START UP
-
Switch the clock on using the ON/OFF switch (move switch to ON position).
-
Briefl y after switching the clock on, the fi rst reception attempt for the DCF signal
takes place. The reception symbol appears on the display and after a successful
DCF reception the correct time will be displayed.
-
Reception display:
no reception
bad
Following the establishment of DCF (long wave time signal) reception, the
time will be shown in 12 hour format. If you would like to change the display
into the 24 hour format, then proceed as described in the section on "set-
ting the time manually" and then do a manual DCF reception trial (for this
see the section "doing a DCF reception trial").
-
If no display appears after switching the clock on, press the RESET button (6)
using a sharp item (e.g. the top of a ball-pen).
-
If there is no display afterwards, the inbuilt rechargeable battery is empty.
In that case, switch the clock off (move ON/OFF switch (7) to OFF position) and
expose the clock to bright light. For the required charging times please refer to
the table further down in this operating manual.
Direct sunlight is the best for recharging the accumulator as the solar cells here-
by have their highest effi ciency.
The detection of the DCF signal and its evaluation may take several minutes.
Do not move the radio wall clock during that time. Do not use any buttons!
Bad reception can be caused, for example, by metalized insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic
devices, or installation in cellars.
If the correct time is not shown after 10 minutes, change the position of the
radio wall clock and press the RESET key (6).
This will start a new reception attempt.
The reception attempt for the daily automatic synchronisation with the DCF time is
done several times a day. One successful reception per day is suffi cient to keep the
deviation to less than 1 second.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via
a DCF transmitter in Mainfl ingen (near Frank-
furt). Its range is up to 1500 km and, under
ideal reception conditions, even up to 2000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes
the precise time (theoretical deviation of 1 sec-
ond in a million years!) and the date.
This means there is no need for manual set-
ting of summer and winter time.
