Firing up the Steam Boiler
1. Before firing up the boiler, check to make sure
that the steam valve is closed.
2. Opening the door to the combustion chamber. Caution! Be careful
when lighting the burner that no one is directly in front of it! Despite all
of the safety precautions, when the burner is light, there may be an
explosion or a shooting flame from the combustion chamber! You
must therefore always use appropriate protective clothing, safety glas-
ses and safety gloves!
Tip: You should practice opening and closing the door to the combustion
chamber and inserting and removing the burner several times with the
live steam engine cold and with safety gloves on. A metal hook comes
with this live steam engine to help you insert and remove the burner.
The point on this hook fits into the hold on the handle for the burner.
Caution: This metal hook has a pointed end. You can injure yourself on it!
3. Lighting the burner. Both of the pilot flames are on the two wicks facing
inward are lit to light the burner. After this the pilot flame will automati-
cally light the burner.

Tip: Use a gas lighter with an extended flame tube.
This will give you a safe distance between the flame and your hands.
4. Using the metal hook, push the burner into
the combustion chamber for the live steam
engine. The burner must be positioned in the
center of the combustion chamber! Now
close the door to the combustion chamber.
Note:
A flame can form even at the safety vent on
the filler cap and on the drain pipe for vapors
that build up in the burner. This flame does
not have to be extinguished. It will go out on
its own after a few minutes.
5. Pay constant attention to the mano-
meter (steam pressure indicator) and
the water level indicator. The water
level indicator must never fall below
the lower mark. The stationary steam
engine can start operating when an
operating pressure of 1.1 bars or
15.95 pounds per square inch.
