Exposures to even low levels of lead can
cause irreversible brain and nervous system
damage. The greatest danger of lead
poisoning is to children and pregnant women.
♦
Before starting work, it is important to
determine whether the paint to be stripped
contains lead. This can be done using a test kit
or by a professional decorator. Do not smoke,
eat or drink in a work area that could or may
be contaminated by lead. Lead based paints
should only be removed by a professional and
should not be removed using a heat gun.
