Differential temperature controller EDTW
INSTALLATION AND OPERTING INSTRUCTION
NO. 95 101
To ensure saftey please read the following
instructions carefully before proceeding.
RECEIPT
Please check consignment immediately on receipt
for accuracy and damage. If damaged, please notify
carrier immediately. Delay in notification may
invalidate any possible claim.
STORAGE
The storage area must be dry and free from
vibrations or variations on temperature.
Damage due to transportation, storage or improper
installation and operation and not liable for warranty.
APPLICATION
This device allows to minimise a temperature
difference between high and low temperature levels
in lange buildings. The device is supplied with two
temperature sensors.
EDTW can be used automatically or manually.
Automatic operation mode:
• If the control knob is set in the fully anticlockwise
position, minumum fan speed occurs when the
difference in high and low lovel temperatures is
3 °C or less; maximum speed occurs when the
difference is 6 °C or more.
• If the control knob is set in the fully clockwise
position, minimum fan speed occurs when the
difference in high and low level temperatures is
10 °C or less; maximum speed occurs when the
difference is 13 °C or more.
• To reduce the temperature difference at which the
fan speed will vary, turn the control knob
anticlockwise. Increase by turning clockwise.
Manual operation mode:
• To reduce the fan speed, turn the knob anticlock-
wise. To increase the fan speed, turn it clockwise.
Automatical and manual oparation mode:
• The fan comes on automatically at full speed for
the first 10 seconds before reverting to the speed
selected.
• The EDTW can be either surface or flush mounted
using the metal wall box supplied.
INSTALLATION OF THE CONTROLLER
These installation instructions are for the installation
of the controller when used in combination with
Helios supplied fans.
Attention! The controller must be installed to fixed
wiring. Ensure the main electrical supply matches the
rating shown on the controller casing.
• This device has to be earthed!
All installation must be carried out by a qualified
electrician.
Never work on the unit unless it is isolated from the
main supply. The installation may only be carried out
by a qualified electrician. Relevant regulations (VDE
0100 and VDE 0700 as well as TAB's of the EVU's
and UW) have to be kept up. Also attend the operation
and installation instruction and other parts in
conjunction with the EDTW.
What the installer needs
• A double pole isolating switch with a minimum
contact gap of 3 mm (wall or ceiling mounted).
• Suitably rated 4-core cable to connect the
controller to the fan/s.
• Suitably rated 3-core cable to connect the controller
to the main electrical supply.
Attention! If using flexible cable, suitable glands
incorporating cable clamps must be fitted to
the knockouts in the controller box. See figure 1.
Where to install the controller?
• Where ambient temperatures are not likely to
exceed 50 °C.
• If installed in a kitchen the controller must not be
mounted immediatelly above a cooker or eye
level grill.
• When intended for use in possible chemical
corrosive atmospheres, consult our customer
service.
• If installed in a shower room or bathroom the
controller and isolating switch must be situated so
that they cannot be touchen by persons making
use of the bath or shower.
Where to install the sensor?
• Not Where temperatures exceed 35 °C.
• Pointing away from walls or other obstructions, to
ensure adequate ventilation.
• High level sensor, above fan mounting height.
• Low level sensor, within 1 m of the controller.
• When intended for use in possible chemical
corrosive atmospheres, consult our customer
service.
WORKING WITH THE FAN
Attention! If wiring to an existing installation isolate
mains supply and remove applicable fuses prior to
any electrical procedure.
Already installed fan:
1. Ensure the power supply is isolated.
2. Disconnect the main connections from the fan's
terminal socket or from the terminal block.
3. Remove the existing wiring and make it safe.
Not yet installed fan:
1. Check that the fan electrical rating matches the
power supply.
2. Mount the fans in accordance with the instructions
supplied.
3. Route the four core cable from the controller
position to each fan.
4. Route the three core cable from controller position
to the isolator position.
Installation of the controller
Remove the cover and mounting frame.
1. Detach the facia from the mounting frame by
removing the screw covers and two screws (see
fig. 2a & b).
2. Lift the wall box away from the plactic surround.
3. Check that the electrical rating shown inside the
controller matches the power supply.
4. Check whether the electrical performance rate
agrees with the main supply.
5. Disconnect the earth wire from the wall box.
6. Make cable entry holes in the plastic and metal
boxed by removing suitable knockouts (see fig. 1)
Installation at the back box
Attention! Eye protection must be worn during all
drilling and chiselling oparations.
Check there are no buried ducts or cables in the
wall or obstructions on the outside e. g. eletricity,
gas, water.
Surface mounting
1. Insert suitable glands into the knockouts.
2. Feed both cables through the glands.
3. Fix the wall box and plastic surround to the wall,
using the mounting holes provided.
4. Re-connect the earth lead to the wall box.
Flush mounting
1. Make a hole in the wall big enough to take the wall
box.
2. Insert suitable glands into the knockouts.
