Computer Connections
The DVD-V8000 is designed with the ability to communicate
with a computer using the RS-232C port's Pin 2 and Pin 3 for
communication, and the 15-Pin D-Sub connector's Pin 1 or
the 9-Pin D-Sub connector's Pin 5 as ground.
Connections between the player and computer are as fol-
lows:
Computer
3
TxD
2
RxD
GND
The player can accept computer commands whenever the
power is turned ON. As a result, there is no need to connect
control lines other than TxD and RxD. However, depending
on the computer, proper control operation may not be achieved
without hardware processing of CTS inputs.
In such cases, DTR output can be used. Under transmit con-
ditions, DTR is constantly output in positive (+) potential, and
should be connected to the computer's CTS input.
Important
¶ Immediately after turning on the player's power, wait to
input commands for at least two seconds until the DTR
output becomes positive (+). Commands transmitted
before that interval may not be properly received, or may
return errors.
Commands and Status
The basic protocol is for the computer to issue a command
and the player return with a status.
Example:
Computer
(1) Search for frame 1000 = (2) Execute search
(4) Play from frame 2000
Actual commands and statuses utilize ASCII character codes.
Command mnemonics are expressed as two characters. In
most cases, upper case and lower case are not discriminated
but upper case characters are used by convention. In order
to indicate chapter numbers and speeds, arguments may ac-
company commands. In this way, commands double as ter-
minators for arguments.
In the simplest protocol, sending a single command will cause
the player to immediately execute it. The <CR> code is ap-
pended as a terminator to the ends of command lines.

Additional Materials
Example:
CH<CR>: Set address mode to chapter.
Example:
10SE<CR>: Search for chapter 10
This unit is provided with a command buffer, so up to 32 char-
acters worth of commands can be input consecutively.
Example:
10SE 20PL<CR>: Search for chapter 10, then play until 20.
In this example, when the <CR> command is received the
command line is executed beginning from the first command
in the buffer.
The maximum command line is 32 characters.
Important
¶ If a command setting autostop (e.g., PL, MF, MR) is im-
mediately followed by another command, the next com-
mand will be executed without waiting for the completion
of the earlier command.
When all commands complete their execution, the player
transmits the finish message (R<CR>). In the event of an er-
ror, an error code such as "E04<CR>" will be returned. Error
codes take the form "Exx" where "xx" is a two-digit number.
