Der Churchill wurde als Pionierpanzer (A.V.R.E. – Armoured Vehicles
Royal Engineers) erfolgreich bei der Invasion der Normandie und dem
weiteren Vormarsch in Westeuropa eingesetzt. Es gab zahlreiche
Varianten zur Minenräumung,
Brückenlegen. Eine spezielle Konstruktion war die S.B.G. – Small Box
Girder Hilfsbrücke. Mit Hilfe dieser Brücke konnten Gräben bis zu
9,40m Breite überquert und Mauern bis zu einer Höhe von 4,20m
Höhe überwunden werden.

The Churchill was used successfully by the Royal Engineers as an AVRE
(Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) during the Normandy landings
and the advance into Western Europe. There were numerous variants
for mine clearance, vehicle recovery and bridge laying. A special design
was the SBG (Small Box Girder) mobile bridge. With this bridge it was
possible to cross trenches up to a width of 9.40 m and surmount ver-
tical obstacles up to a height of 4.20.
