PHOTO 37: Find the gun ports (no. 51) and remove the sections (no. 53), which will serve as the base, see photo no. 38. Glue the gun
ports into place as shown in the photo, making sure that they adapt to the curve of the frames. Make sure you line the part up correctly.
PHOTO 38: Glue a first strip (no. 52) into place over the waterway and against the frames. Between the gun ports and the strip glue
the bases (no. 53). Cut lengths of the strip (no. 54) and glue them into place framing the gun ports.
PHOTO 39: Check the photo and make sure that the beam rest (no. 55) is lined up flush with the slot for the beams (no. 56) in the
frames. First you must attach the beam rest and then finish the lining work using the strips (no. 52), adjusting them to the gap to be
covered.
PHOTOS 40 & 41: Fit the beams (no. 56) into place and then the four columns (no. 579 and the bracket frames (no. 58). Do not forget
to varnish the new parts as you fit them.
PHOTO 42: Line the deck (no. 59) using the planking (no. 60), trim off the excess and apply the varnish and age as with the other
decks.
PHOTO 43: Glue this deck into place, making sure the hole for the mast is in line with the holes in the lower decks. Cut out the
waterways (no. 61) and glue the into place, along with the mast tabernacle (no. 62), centred on the hole left for the mast, and two
battens (no. 63), as shown in the photo.
PHOTO 44: Cut out a 21 x 21 mm section of grating (no. 64) and frame it using the strips (nos. 65 & 66). Glue this assembly into place
in the gap left on the deck.
PHOTO 45: Using the strips (nos. 67 & 68) frame a 4 mm space around the grating, in which ammunition will later be stacked. Glue the
battens (no. 69) to the deck, framing the mast tabernacle.
PHOTO 46: Glue the gun ports (no. 70) to both sides of the hull. Keep the interior sections (no. 72) for the next step.
PHOTOS 47 to 49: Fit a strip (no. 71) over the waterway and glue the bases (no. 72) between the gun ports and the strip. Cut lengths
of the strip (no. 73) and frame the gun port openings. Continue by fitting the beam rest (no. 74) flush with the slots for the beams (no.
75) in the frames, then complete the lining using the strips (no. 71).
PHOTO 50: Then fit the beams (no. 75) and under them the bracket frames (no. 76).
PHOTOS 51 & 52: The main deck (no. 77) is lined using sheets of planking (no. 78) and following the same procedure as for the other
decks. When this is done reopen the holes in the centre of the deck. The slots in the sides must not be trimmed off so that the planking
covers the tops of the frames.
PHOTO 53: Glue the mast tabernacle (no. 79) into place. Centre the bulwarks (no. 80) and glue them as shown in the photo.
PHOTO 54: Cut and glue the waterways (no. 81) into place. Frame the hatch using the strips (nos. 82 & 83) making sure that you
cover the whole edge of the opening.
PHOTO 55: Glue the strips (no. 84) to the inside of the bulwarks, trim off the excess and reopen the openings.
PHOTO 56: Cut out and glue the parts (no. 85) into place in the holes in the deck and resting on the deck beneath. Make up two pin
racks (no. 86) and glue them to the pin rack posts 6 mm above deck level.
PHOTOS 57 to 58: Now trim off the supporting feet from the frames so that the assembly can be removed. File down carefully to even
up the shape of the frames.
st
PHOTO 59: Fit and centre a first rubbing strake (no. 87) under the 1
battery gun ports. Leave a 1 mm gap, as shown in the photo.
Under this strake fit two more.
PHOTOS 60 to 62: Start to line the bottom of the hull using the exterior lining strakes (no. 88). Keep on fitting the strips until there is
only space for one more to finish, this should be approximately in the middle of the hull. Trim this last strake down if necessary and, in
continuation, sand down the strakes to unify their height.
PHOTOS 63 & 64: Cut and glue the rest of the rubbing strakes (no. 89) in place. You will see in the photo that they must be below the
level of the gun ports, leaving a 1 mm gap, as shown in photo no. 64. The first of the two rubbing strakes attached to the bottom of the
top bulwark must be glued to the bottom of the bulwark allowing space for the frames shown in photo no. 73 to be fitted.
PHOTOS 65 & 66: Between the rubbing strakes the exterior of the hull must be lined using the strip (no. 90). Start below the rubbing
strakes and adjust the last strips to complete the lining.
PHOTO 67: Starting from the strip (no. 91), cut the necessary lengths to make up the gunwales. Start with the longer sections and
mount the upper gunwales a few millimetres above the lower ones. Round off the ends that overlap. See close up.
PHOTOS 68 to 69: Make an angled cut in the beam, as shown in the photo, leaving a projection of approximately 10 mm on which to
support the waist beam (no. 92).
PHOTO 70: Fit the channels (no. 93) over the top strake and hang them from the brackets (no. 94). On the sides glue first the bases
(nos. 95& 96) to support the rungs (nos. 97 & 98). Centre the rungs on the bases.
PHOTO 71: Using a sander eliminate the slot in the keel, evening up the whole surface.
PHOTO 72: Now varnish the whole of the exterior surface, using colourless satin-finish pore-filler varnish. You can also use asphalt
solution diluted with turpentine for an aging affect, as with the decks. Quickly wipe off any excess with a cloth so that it only stains the
cracks. Use the same method for any of the other parts to which you want to give the appearance of age.
PHOTO 73: If necessary retouch the holes so that the frames can be fitted. Glue the port frames (no. 101) to the bulwarks. For the
different batteries glue a frame (no. 99) to each of the gun ports as well as a gun port cover (no. 100). If necessary make a small rebate
in the strakes so that the metal gun port covers fit flush with the hull.
PHOTO 74: Cut the side pin racks (no. 102) to size and make eight holes of the required diameter for the belaying pins 'H'. Also make
holes in the mast pin racks and fit all of the belaying pins. The eyebolts 'B' are fitted to the deck and the bulwarks as shown. Tie off the
pulleys to the deck eyebolts 'E' using the slings 'C'.
PHOTOS 75 & 76: Attach a clump block 'F' using brass wire (no. 103) and pass the wire through the first hole in the channel. Tie off a
length of chain plate (no. 104) with the wire and cut off the excess. Tighten the chain plate and, using a pin, attach it to the strakes.
Repeat the operation using the rest of the parts "F" and "G".
