GENERAL COFFEE BREWING HINTS AND TIPS
1. The volume of coffee is always be slightly lower than the volume of water it has been brewed
with. The missing water is absorbed by the coffee from which you brew.
2. Keep your coffee beans or ground or granulated coffee in a sealed container and in a dry and
cold place.
3. Do not rebrew the spent coffee. The best and fullest aroma can only be achieved with the
first brewing.
4. Keep the appliance clean. Dirt, grime, residues of spent coffee and coffee oil produced by
grinding and brewing will spoil the overall aroma of the brew and reduce the operating life
of the coffee maker.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
CAUTION! Before cleaning, always unplug the coffee maker from the mains outlet and wait until it has com-
pletely cooled down.
CAUTION! Do not immerse the housing (1) in water!
1. Open the top lid and remove the coffee filter (7) with the coffee drip basket (8). Wash these
parts in warm water with a detergent. Next, rinse clean and dry the parts. The drip stop valve
at the bottom outer part of the coffee drip basket must always be clean. Press the drip stop
valve 3 to 4 times to remove the remaining water and brew.
2. Gently wash the glass coffee jug (9) with its handle (10) and lid (11) like any other glassware.
3. The glass jug (9) and the coffee drip basket (8) are dishwasher safe.
4. Wipe the housing (1) clean with a damp cloth and then wipe it dry.
CAUTION! Rough (abrasive) cleaning cloths or sponges may scratch the outer finish of the coffee maker.
5. Use the CLEAN mode (for descaling) regularly. This helps keep the internal parts free from
limescale and the coffee taste and aroma natural when brewing the next serving. Descale
the coffee maker as follows:
- Open the top lid (3) and add approximately ½ litre of vinegar and 1 litre of water to the
water tank. Alternatively, use the same amount of water and a dedicated coffee maker
descaling agent.
- Close the top lid (3) and put the empty coffee jug (9) on the heat plate (12).
- Plug the coffee maker to the mains.
- Start the self-cleaning / descaling mode by pressing the "CLEAN" button (2b). The LCD
displays "CLEAN" when the self-cleaning / descaling mode is running.
- In the self-cleaning / descaling mode, the coffee maker slowly drips water from the tank to
the glass jug, while the internals are descaled. Run self-cleaning / descaling with the cof-
fee drip basket (8). Self-cleaning /descaling takes from several to several dozen minutes to
complete, depending on how much water is in the tank.
- When self-cleaning / descaling is done, the red indicator light (2i) and the "CLEAN" mes-
sage are off.
- Repeat self-cleaning / descaling 2 to 3 times with pure water only, to remove the descal-
er's residues.
- Unplug the coffee maker from the mains.
