ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
BOUNTY
PHOTOS 1-2.
Stain the false keel the colour of oak wood. Insert the frames (2-12) into the false keel (1) and glue them into place.
It is important to make sure that the frames are set completely perpendicular to the false keel. Use white glue.
Cut the planking (13) and stain it the colour of walnut wood. Glue it in place at the bottom of the hull and then apply colourless
pore-filling lacquer to all of the parts.
PHOTOS 3-4.
Glue the parts (14, 15, 16 & 17) and apply pore-filling lacquer. Now adjust to size and fit the mountings (18 & 19).
Glue the parts (14, 15, 21, 22, 23 & 24) into place and varnish them. Now stain the parts (20, 25, 26 & 27) the colour of walnut
wood and glue them into place as shown in the image. Now glue the parts (28) and varnish them.
PHOTOS 5-6.
Glue the braces (29 – 34) onto the thwarts, as shown in the image, and then varnish them.
Glue the reinforcements (35 – 40) to both sides of the false keel, from bow to stern.
PHOTOS 7-8.
Now secure the launch so that you can sand down the exterior. In order to achieve a good contact surface for the lining sand
down the reinforcement pieces and the edges of the frames, working from bow to stern and stern to bow. In order to make sure
that the sanding work has been done correctly, align a strip along both sides of the launch to confirm that it comes into contact
with all of the frames.
PHOTOS 9-10.
Glue and pin a strip (41) into place on both sides of the launch, 3 mm from the top end of each frame. Continue lining, using the
strips (41) until you have completed the hull. Pin the strips in place, using the pins (A), until the glue has dried, removing them
gradually as the work progresses. The profile of the strips will have to be adjusted, depending on the area of the hull.
PHOTOS 11-12.
Now glue a strip (42) along the top of the frames. This strip must project approximately 5 mm above the level of the top of the
frames. Use a semi-rigid sander to sand down and even up the exterior surface of the hull.
Should it be a case of any irregularities or gaps on the exterior of the hull use filler top correct them and then, when dry, sand
the hull down again.
Make 5 x 5 mm notches in the top edges of the hull on both sides of the launch, distributed as shown in the photo.
PHOTOS 13-14.
Line the hull of the launch using the lining (43). In order to fix them firmly in place you will have to use contact glue (cobbler's
glue), and press them down using the wooden handle of one of your tools.
Now fit the lining (44), adjusting it to the top edge of the hull. Adapt and glue the rubbing strakes (45) using quick-drying
adhesive. Sand down the parts (46 & 49), stain them the colour of sapelli wood and glue them to the hull.
PHOTOS 15-16.
Sand down the rudder blade (50) and stain them the colour of sapelli wood. Adjust the hinges (51) using cutting pliers and fix
them in place using the pins (A). Now make up the hinge pins (52) and insert the tiller (53).
Make up the oars using the parts (54, 55 & 56).
Attach the rudder to the launch by means of the hinges (51).
PHOTOS 17-18.
Using a file make up the windlass (57) and its supports (58). Stain this assembly the colour of sapelli wood. Now make holes for
the belaying pins (59) and the pins (A). Cut off the heads of the pins (A) using pliers. Attach the windlass and the pins (59), after
painting them black, as show in the photo.
PHOTOS 19-20.
Make up the two parts (60), stain them the colour of sapelli wood and fix them in place as shown in the photo. Paint the tiller
brown.
Stain the parts (61) the colour of sapelli wood and then insert the gin blocks (63) and fix them in place using the shaft (62).
PHOTOS 21-22.
Glue the supports (61) onto the aft part of the launch. Make eight 0.75 mm diameter holes and insert eight eyebolts (B). Paint
the cleats (64) and glue them in place on the bow thwart. Now varnish the barrel (65) and, using a black marker pen, highlight
the barrel hoops. Make up and fix the handle (67) to the bucket (66).
