1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 General considerations.
Filtration is a mechanical procedure for retaining and removing impurities
contained in the water. These impurities may be in the water when the pool
is initially filled, can enter the pool from the surrounding area (dust,
insects, leaves, etc.) or can be carried into the pool by swimmers (sweat,
hair, cosmetic residues, etc.). Since these external factors can vary
considerably from pool to pool, so too can the behaviour of the filtration
system. It is therefore important to learn the best way to treat our own
specific pool.
Solid impurities also carry microscopic germs and plant spores into the
water which, due to the temperature of the water, create a breeding ground
in which the germs and spores can reproduce at a fast rate, giving the
water a classic green colour. The elimination of these germs by means of
chemical sterilisation is essential to ensure optimal performance of the fil-
ter unit.
1.2 Filter.
The filter is the unit that contains the silicon sand through which the water
circulates and where any dirt will be retained. KRIPSOL filters are made
from anti-corrosion materials (polyester stratified with fibreglass) and are
designed to withstand a maximum operating pressure of 1,6 kg/cm².

Inside, the filter contains a top water distributor (D) and a bottom collector
manifold (C) to channel the filtered water.
It also contains a top cover to provide access to the interior and a bottom
drainage cap for use when the unit needs to be completely emptied. It also
has the holes needed to connect it to the selector valve.
1.3 Selector valve.
The selector valve has several positions that allow us to distribute water to
the different functions, i.e. filter, wash, rinse, drain,
etc. Always stop the motor before changing the
function, then press the lever firmly (like a clutch)
and select the required position.
Always stop the motor before changing the
position of the selector valve.
The valve also contains a sight glass beside the
water outlet to the drain. This sight glass can be
used to check the output of dirty water when the
filter sand is washed. The valve is also equipped
with a pressure gauge that indicates the degree of
dirt in the filter bed, given that when the filter bed
is dirty or has become compacted it applies a greater level of resistance to
the flow of water and therefore increases the internal pressure.
1.4 Pump.
The pump is the fundamental element of the filter unit. It must be adequately
sized to ensure it is able to carry out the recirculation task for periods of
between 6 and 8 hours. The pump takes in the water from the skimmers or
the main drain and, once filtered, returns it through the outlet nozzles. The
KRIPSOL electropump is built from thermo-set synthetic materials that are
resistant to corrosion caused by the pool water and chemical products and
can withstand high temperatures with no structural deformities.
It is designed in such a way that neither the motor nor the shaft of the pump
come into contact with the water. The pump's self-priming function makes it
ideal for this type of installation.
It has a coarse particle or hair pre-filter located before the motor, which

The pre-filter should be cleaned regularly, taking care to ensure that it
is returned to the correct position. Never force the pre-filter basket into
position; it should enter easily if positioned correctly.
Clean the pre-filter basket at least once a week.

2. INSTALLATION
The filter equipment or filter, selector valve and motor pump unit should
be installed close to the pool, preferably at a distance of no more than
5 meters and at 0.5 meters below the water level of the pool to ensure
"charged" operation.
The connections between the selector valve and the pump and between
the pumps and the embedded nozzles and accessories installed in the pool
must be done using PVC pipes (preferably 10 ATM), plastic accessories
and Teflon tape.
2.1 Sand loading instructions.
To load the filter with sand, proceed as follows:
1) Remove the top cover.
2) Lower the top distributor, supporting the air-bleed tube. Half fill the filter with water.
3) Add the sand as indicated on the rating plate located on the side of the filter.
4) Replace the top distributor.
5) Carefully clean any remains of sand from the gasket, seat and thread.
6) Grease the gasket with Vaseline or another type of grease before replacing
the filter cover, making sure that the seal is airtight.
