AC 0118
UNIVERSAL CYLINDER LEAK DETECTOR TESTER
CHARACTERISTICS
This tool allows the seal of the cylinders to be tested without the need to open up the
engine. It is one of the simplest and fastest tests to use to check the engine's condition.
Air is injected through the plug well into each cylinder, and the dial indicates if there's any pressure loss.
Engine compression leaks can damage valves, wear segments, crack the cylinder head gasket or
the cylinder head.
Set including :
1 pressure gauge
1 leakage zone pressure gauge
1 pressure regulator
1 hose and quick coupling
1 set of spark plugs and spark plug wells accessories
Operating principle :
Measurement on manometer of the leakage degree by introducing compressed air in each
cylinder.
Location of the leaks by listening to the levels below:
Oil dipstick port
Radiator inlet
Exhaust manifold
Intake pipe
Throttle valve
INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT: Make sure the regulator knob is turned fully counterclockwise before connecting to
compressed air. Pressure gauges are not guaranteed against overpressure.
WARNING: Make sure the vehicle is in park or neutral, with the parking brake on and your hands
out of the engine compartment. The engine may run while this tool is in use. Grounding the
distributor coil wire will disable it.
• Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature.
• Remove spark plugs, dipstick, radiator cap, air filter.
• Remove all spark plugs and place the piston at approximately top dead center so that both
valves are closed. Run the engine only in the normal direction.
To position the cylinder correctly:
• Rotate until the cylinder goes into a compression situation.
• The piston is at top dead center when the crankshaft pulley mark is at the 0 mark.
• Turn the regulator knob fully counterclockwise. Then connect compressed air (6 to 10 bar) to the
regulator without the cylinder hose being connected to the tester.
Turn the regulator clockwise until the pressure gauge shows 0 at the end of the yellow setting
area.
