• Check the function of the spring for
the lower guard. If the guard and the
spring do not work properly, have
the machine inspected and repaired
before using it again. Damaged parts,
encrusted material or accumulations
of chippings may cause the guard to
operate with delay.
• Open the guard by hand only in
case of special cuts such as „sink
cuts" or „angle cuts". Open the
lower guard using the pull-back
lever and release it as soon as the
blade has penetrated the
workpiece. For all other sawing
operations, the lower guard must
function automatically.
• When laying the saw aside on the
bench or floor, ensure that the
blade is covered by the guard. The
unprotected spinning blade causes
the saw to move contrary to cutting
direction and damages anything in its
path. Remember that the saw blade
continues to spin freely for a while
after the switch is released.
• Use the correct splitting wedge for
the saw blade in use. The splitting
wedge must be thicker than the body
of the saw blade, but thinner than the
width of the teeth.
• Adjust the splitting wedge as
described in the operating
instructions. Incorrect thickness,
position and alignment may be the
reason why the splitting wedge does
not effectively prevent a kickback.
• Always use the splitting wedge
except for sink cuts. Re-fit the
wedge immediately after the sink cut.
The splitting wedge hinders sink
cutting and may cause the saw to
44
kick back.
