4. Installation
To install the DC-150 RAID Controller you have to remove the cabinet of your
computer; please note the warranty agreement of your computer manufacturer.
Before removing the cabinet always turn off and unplug your computer! The DC-150
RAID Controller can be installed into any available busmaster 32 bit 33/66 MHz PCI
slot.
The jumper ROM is used to reprogram the flash ROM. In case of problems,
telephone the hotline mentioned above.
5. Connecting Serial ATA Drives
You can connect up to 2 Serial ATA drives to the controller. The secondary IDE
port (IDE 2) can optionally be used as an external connector. As the two secondary
IDE ports are mounted in parallel, the external and the internal IDE 2 ports cannot be
used at the same time. Two special ATA cables are included in the package of your
RAID controller.
6. RAID Levels (Redundant Array of Independent Disks)
Fundamentally, a RAID unit is called a "RAID array". The individual hard disks
combined in a RAID array are seem as one single hard disk by your PC. An array
consists of at least 2 hard disks. The hard disks making up a RAID array are usually
called "members". Further characteristics of the individual modes are described
below.
