1. Introduction
We would like to congratulate you on buying your Dawicontrol Host Adapter. This
manual describes the installation and the use of the DC-150 RAID as well as the
enclosed software in an easily understandable way.
Although the manual details all the functions and possibilities, we are willingly at
your disposal for further help and questions. For innovations too recent to be included
in the present manual we would like to refer you to the READ.ME file on the floppy disk.
2. Description of the DC-150 RAID
The Serial ATA standard has been conceived as an extension and innovation of
the previous ATA standard. However, the mode of transmission has been changed
from parallel to serial, which enables a considerably higher frequency and therefore
increases performance. Similarly, the other characteristics of the new Serial ATA
standard meet the demands of modern progressive technology. For instance, longer
and thinner cables prevent overheating and simplify installation. Furthermore, downward
compatibility of the Serial ATA standard to the previous ATA standard is guaranteed.
The DC-150 RAID fulfils the Serial ATA standard completely and therefore
represents state-of-the-art technology. Due to its compatibility the DC-150 RAID can
be used universally. It is suitable for applications which require increased performance
as well as for data security. The DC-150 RAID is compatible with older as well as with
newer and faster motherboards. Fundamentally, the DC-150 RAID has been conceived
for Serial ATA drives; however, older drives can as well be connected via adapter.
The DC-150 RAID is mainly used to increase RAID 0 performance and to ensure
RAID 1 data security. These are found, for instance, in video edit and server use.
However, the DC-150 RAID can just as well be used as an extension of existing
resources by not taking into account the RAID levels.
