power lead: this must be inserted in the mains socket. When connecting
check:
• that mains voltage and frequency are as indicated on the identification
plate (incorrect power supply voltage may damage the equipment).
• that the mains supply has a proper, efficient earth connection.
Do not tamper with the power supply cable and relative plug.
For replacement of the same due to damage and/or wear, only
contact Authorised After-Sales Centres.
An earth connection is mandatory. If an extension
must be used temporarily, it must be in compliance
with the standards in force in the country of use.

START-UP

Fig. 1: Set the equipment down on the flat surface of a work bench. Now
follow the instructions given in section 6.3.1. If necessary use a wrench to
adjust the height of the support feet.
Fig. 2: Connect the power lead plug (26) to the mains and the connector to
the machine socket (12): observe the instructions in section 6.4 carefully.
Fig. 3: Connect the air inlet hose (32) to the compressed air line and
connect it with the air inlet fitting (x) on the modular filter block (23) to the
right of the apparatus.
The minimum recommended pressure is 6 bar. Maximum infeed
pressure must not exceed 8 bar.
6.6

USING THE EXTRACTOR

Zhermack recommends use of the SAB 1000 extractor, specially
designed and built to carry out extraction and cleaning inside
the sandblaster.
Fig. 4: After positioning the extractor properly (see section 6.3.1) insert
the relative plug (y) directly into the socket on the sandblaster itself;
alternatively, connect the extractor plug to a mains socket.
Fig. 5: Remove the sealing plug from the connector (10 and/or 11) on the
side of the sandblaster and connect the extraction hose.
Fig. 6: Switch on the extractor by pressing the main switch button (z).
• To obtain optimal results it is recommended that you connect
the double extraction hose (optional, code XR0061550) to the
sandblaster.
• It is recommended that you connect the extractor directly
to the sandblaster (see fig. 4): this ensures that the extractor
starts working as soon as the sandblaster is switched on.
Failure to comply with any of the above-stated equipment
installation regulations can lead to equipment malfunctioning
and render the warranty null and void.
6.7

DECLARED USE

California sandblaster has been designed and built for the sandblasting of
dental laboratory items.
6.8
NON-DECLARED/PROHIBITED USE
Using the equipment for any purpose not considered in
paragraph regarding "Declared use" shall be considered
improper and thus forbidden.
The improper use of the equipment renders the warranty null
and void and Zhermack declines all liability for any damage to
objects and injury to operators or third parties.
The main reasons for which the warranty is rendered null and void are given
in paragraph 2.2 and in the "Warranty Certificate" attached to this Manual.
CHAPTER 7: USING THE EQUIPMENT
7.1

GENERAL WARNINGS

• The equipment must not be used with any of its parts
disassembled: before using the equipment make sure that all
its components are properly in place.
• For total certainty of safe operation, scrupulously follow the
work phases given below.
For greater clarity, the numbers stated in the figures positioned
near to the paragraph boxes correspond to the numbering of
the data in Chapter 3, regarding the "Description of the
equipment".

SAFETY SYSTEMS
In compliance with EC 89/392 international accident prevention standards,
the equipment is fitted with safety devices such as fixed and mobile guards
to shield moving parts.
This ensures operator safety when the equipment are in use.
7.3

USE OF THE EQUIPMENT

The examples illustrated below refer to the California 3
sandblaster with the SAB1000 extractor.
Fig. 7: California 3 modules: Fill the cylinders (3, 6 and 9) with sand, after
unscrewing the relevant covers (2, 5 and 8).
California 2 modules: Fill the cylinders (3 and 9) with sand, after unscrewing
the relevant covers (2 and 8).
To obtain optimal results we recommend that you use California
sandblasters with Zhermack sands (see section 4.3.1).
It is forbidden to mix sands of different particle size: observing
this rule will prevent the fine sand cylinder (with correspondingly
narrow nozzle outlet) from being "contaminated" with large-
grain sand: any such contamination would certainly obstruct
the nozzles and seriously damage the equipment. For the same
reason it is forbidden to recycle sand used during previous work
sessions.
Fig. 8: The labels positioned above the respective lids show the permitted
sand particle sizes and are designed to make filling tasks easier; the user can,
in fact, note the type of sand used in the tank directly on the label.
After each filling, it is recommended that you ALWAYS note the
type of sand introduced into the tank so as to avoid mixing
sands of different particle sizes inside it.
The labels also indicate the type of nozzle used on the relative tank; see the
following table associating nozzle type with the correct type of sand to be
used with it:
Nozzle
Ø 0,8 mm long parabolic
Ø 1,3 mm short
Fig. 9: Reposition lids on tanks by screwing them on clockwise.
Clean the inner edge of the tanks lids thoroughly, removing any
sand residue before screwing them back on.
Fig. 10: Switch on the sandblaster via the main switch (12).
At the same time the LED lighting will come on (as will the extractor, where
connected: see section 6.7).
Fig. 11: Open the glass door (20). Position the article to be sandblasted
inside the chamber.
Before using the sandblaster it is recommended that you always
apply adhesive protective film on the inside of the glass door
and on the LED holder: doing so protects them against wear and
maintains optimal visibility (see section 7.4.7).
