Heating cable with braid and no outer jacket
Note: Instructions generally show SLCBL-BP/BF series heating cable with braid and outer jacket. The
SLCBL-B series heating cable without an outer jacket looks slightly different from those illustrated.
INSTALLATION
1.
Cleanly cut off the end of each cable. For
heating cable with outer jacket, lightly score
completely around and then down the outer
jacket 2" (5.1 cm).
CAUTION: Do not cut braid or inner jacket.
2.
Bend heating cable to break jacket at score,
then peel off outer jacket.

Push the braid back and cut 3/4" (2cm) off
the end of the base cable.
WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD.
To prevent short circuits, do not connect the
bus wires together. Keep braid out of heat
shrink cap.

Cut off 3/4" of bare

4.
Carefully cut-off 1/4"(6mm) of one side of the
heating element so that one bus wire is
shorter than the other. This ensures the
conductors do not short together. See image:

5.
Slide the heat shrink cap over the end of the
cable. Apply heat evenly until it shrinks
around the cable.

Pull the pushed-back braid over the sealed
end cap and twist the braid end together.

7.
Slide the 4" (10cm) woven braid sleeve over
the same end of the cable in step 4, allowing
at least 1/2" (1.3cm) to extend past the end
of the cable.

8.
Slide the 5" (12.7cm) heat shrink tubing over
the woven braid piece, allowing 1/2" (1.3cm)
to extend past the end of each end of the
woven sleeve.
5" (13cm) heat shrink tube
Allow 1/2" (1.3cm) to extend past both

9.
Apply heat evenly to the heat shrink tube
until it shrinks around the cable.
10.
While the shrink tubing is still hot, gently
squeeze the end of the shrink tube with pliers
and hold until cool. The end must remain
visibly sealed when the pliers are removed. If
the tube does not remain sealed, then repeat
steps 8 and 9.
Pinch the end of the tube with flat nose
pliers while tube is still hot. Hold until
cool.

Complete the installation by securing the end
seal to pipe or object being heated by using
fiberglass tape (PSAT36A).
