Caution: Hub seal must be free of dirt or grease before installation.
20. Lightly lubricate the seal O.D. and I.D. evenly with the same lubricant being retained. Be sure to lightly lubricate the hub area
that the seal is being pressed into. Never install dry!
21. Press the seal evenly into the bore. Use even force to avoid cocking the seal, and be sure that it is evenly seated and bottomed
in the bore. A rubber mallet or soft face tool may be used to gently tap the seal to insure that it has bottomed properly.
Caution: Install new seal if seal is cocked during or after installation.
Note: Make sure hub is located on solid surface before attempting to install seal.
22. After the seal has bottomed, check to be sure the packing is unrestricted by moving it up and down.
23. Wipe seal and hub area as shown and inspect the seal inner diameter to make sure it is clean and that the seal is installed
squarely in the bore. Apply a light coat of clean motor oil to the seal inner diameter before installing the hub assembly on the
spindle.
24. Inspect spindle seal surface for scratches or damage. Inspect inner shoulder for damage from bearing cone turning. Remove
all scratches, gouges or galling damage with #600 or finer wet or dry sandpaper. Wipe clean.
