Important notice:
The purpose of this kit is to upgrade the Ford design 10.25" ring gear axle full float hub to the latest design. This kit is not re-
quired if, after disassembly, you discover the hub contains an oil slinger as shown in Figure 1 below. If the hub does not contain
an oil slinger, continue with this procedure. Note that the parts in this kit are also serviced separately.
Stop! Ford special service tools or their equivalent are required to perform this procedure correctly!
Note: For Ford Special Service Tools, contact local dealership.
Service tools required:
Hub seal replacer ..................T93T-1175-AR
Hub nut wrench .....................T85T-4252-AH
Step plate adapter .................D80L-630-7
Puller tool ...............................D80L-1002-L
150 ft lb torque wrench .......D81L-600-B
Bearing packing tool .............
Torque specifications:
Hub nut—75-88 Nm (55-65 lb ft) (Back off required, see procedure instruction #29)
Wheel lug nuts (Both single and dual rear wheel)—190 Nm (140 lb ft)
Axle shaft to hub bolts—82-108 Nm (60-80 lb ft)
Filler plug—21-40 Nm (15-30 lb ft)

Procedures:
1. Set the parking brake and loosen the eight axle shaft retaining bolts.
2. Raise the vehicle to the desired working height, keeping the axle parallel with the floor.
3. Release parking brake and back off the rear brake adjustment, if necessary.
4. Remove the wheel.
5. Remove brake drum. Push-on (sheet metal) drum retainer nuts may be discarded. Push on retainer nuts are used for
shipping purposes only and have no effect on vehicle function.
6. Remove the eight 7/16" axle shaft bolt and remove the axle shaft.

  • Page 3 12. If, after hub removal, the hub seal or seal inner sleeve remains on the spindle, remove it as shown. Note: A small number of 1991 F-250 and F-350 vehicles with full floating rear axles and single rear wheels were built with a white plastic dust deflector snapped into a groove inboard of the axle housing spindle (refer to View A).
