5.2.4 Connect the top fitting of the catalyst tube to the adaptor used above. If using the adaptor for capillary FID, a small part of the
transition tubing will extend into the catalyst tube. Tighten the nut until finger tight. (See Figure 7 for reference.)
5.2.5 Using two wrenches against each other, tighten the nut an additional ½ to ¾ turn to be sure the catalyst tube is tightly
connected to the adaptor nut.
5.2.6 Feed the methanizer hydrogen supply line (cat.# 27208) out of the GC through the same cutout opening through which the
wires of the heater chamber were routed.
5.2.7 Connect the hydrogen supply line (cat.# 27208) to the 1/8" to 1/16" tube end reducer connected to the metering valve.
5.2.8 Connect the other end of the hydrogen supply line (cat.# 27208) to the 1/8" fitting on the bottom of the catalyst tube.
Tighten the nut until finger tight, then, using two wrenches against each other to avoid twisting the hydrogen supply line
tubing (cat.# 27208), tighten the nut an additional ½ to ¾ turn.

5.3 Column Installation

5.3.1 Install the analytical column between the inlet side of the GC oven (or sampling valve) and the methanizer column inlet. (An
installed column is shown in Figure 10.)
5.3.2 Use the column fitting and the reducing ferrules that are provided (Table I).
• Capillary and micropacked column installation: Place the column nut and ferrule over one end of the column. The optimal
insertion distance of the column into the methanizer inlet should be 1" from the bottom of the column nut to the top of the
column. With the column in the proper position, finger tighten the column nut. Then, using two wrenches against each other
to avoid twisting the hydrogen supply line (cat.# 27208), tighten the nut an additional ¼ to ½ turn.
