1.0 Overview
The Restek methanizer enables a flame ionization detector (FID) to detect low levels of carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO
). The

gas mixture is first separated using a GC column, and then it passes over a hot catalyst that (in the presence of hydrogen) converts any CO
and CO
into methane. Methane (CH
) is readily detected by the FID. A typical setup is shown in Figure 1.
