2.0 INTRODUCTION
The OPTIKA zoom stereo microscopes SZM series are high performance Greenough microscopes with con-
tinuous zoom system 0.7:4.5.
These instruments are made for examining any three dimensional object in industrial, biological and educa-
tional applications. They are equipped with two separate optical systems that give an excellent field depth to
the image, a stereoscopic effect.
3.0 UNPACKING AND ASSEMBLY
The components for the SZM series are shipped in a Styrofoam box for protection. Open the box with care to
avoid that any components fall out and get damaged.
If the instrument has been damaged during the transport, please contact both the carrier and your supplier
immediately.
Unpack the stand and put it on a good stable table. Loosen the lock screw of the focusing carrier, adjust the
height of the focusing carrier and lock the lock screw again.
Put the stereo head onto the focusing carrier and lock it by the lock screw on the side of the focusing carrier.
During the operation of the microscope, this screw should always be locked to maintain maximum stability.
Unpack the eyepieces and other optical parts carefully and place the eyepieces into the eyepiece tubes.
When handling the optical parts, avoid touching any lens surface with naked hand or fingers. Any fingerprints
or grease stains will negatively affect the image quality.
Connect the external power supply plug into the socket at the base
The power cord should be used only on network sockets equipped with adequate grounding.
Contact a technician to check the state of your electrical system. If there is no need to install additional
accessories, the instrument is now ready for use. Once positioned and installed with the necessary
components, the microscope is ready to be used. Your microscope is a laboratory instrument de-
signed to last. Handle it always carefully and avoid abrupt vibrations or shocks. Always disconnect the
power cable from the microscope when not in use for long time, while you clean it or when you perform
any maintenance.
AVOID DISASSEMBLING THE INSTRUMENT
Do not disassemble the instrument. This entails the cancellation of the warranty and may cause
malfunction.
