SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS FOR MODEL 400ST STROBE LIGHT
A. General.
It is important to follow all instructions shipped with this product. This device is to be installed
by a trained electrician who is thoroughly familiar with the National Electrical Code and will
follow the NEC Guidelines as well as local codes.
The selection of the mounting location for the device, its controls and the routing of the wiring
is to be accomplished under the direction of the facilities engineer and the safety engineer. In
addition, listed below are some other important safety instructions and precautions you should
follow:
• Read and understand all instructions before installing or operating this equipment.
• Do not connect this light to the system when power is on.
• After installation, test the light system to ensure that it is operating properly.
• After testing is complete, provide a copy of this instruction sheet to all operating personnel.
• Establish a procedure to routinely check the light system for proper activation and operation.
Failure to follow all safety precautions and instructions may result in property damage, serious
injury, or death to you or others.
The Model 400ST Strobe Light is designed to provide high intensity warning flashes which
signal the presence of hazards or impending dangerous conditions The effective intensity of the
light is 400 candelas (clear dome) and the flash rate is approximately 75 flashes per minute.
The only electrical components which are designed to be replaced by the customer are the
flash tube, printed circuit board assembly and 3-ampere fuse located on the circuit board.
Paragraphs B. and C. describe replacement of these components.
The factory will service your equipment or provide assistance with technical problems that
cannot be handled satisfactorily locally.

If any unit is returned for repair, it can be accepted only if we are notified by mail or telephone
in advance of its arrival. Such notice should clearly indicate the service requested and all
pertinent information regarding the nature of the malfunction and, if possible, its cause.
High voltages are present inside the light assembly. Wait at least 5 minutes, after shutting off power,
B. Flash Tube.
As strobe lights are used, flash tubes begin to darken causing the light output to decrease. This
darkening is characteristic of flash tubes and can be viewed through the top of the dome. It will
begin near the base of the tube and progress upward. Also, as flash tubes age, they may have a
tendency to misfire (not fire periodically).
