OPERATING PRECAUTIONS

Thisisapropane,direct-fired,forcedairheater.It'sintended
useisprimarilytemporaryheatingofbuildingsunder
construction,alterationorrepair.
Propaneisheavierthanair.Ifpropaneleaksfroma
connectionorfitting,itsinkstothefloor,collectingthere
withthesurroundingair,formingapotentiallyexplosive
mixture.Obviously,propaneleaksshouldbeavoided,soset
upthepropanesupplywithutmostcare.ReadenclosedOdor
FadeandPropaneSheetforadditionalinformationabout
detectingpropaneleaks.Leakchecknewconnectionsor
reconnectionswithasoapandwatersolutionandfollowall
connectioninstructionsherein.Also,askyourpropanedealer
foradviceonthepropaneapplicationandsupplyinstallation
andaskhimtocheckitifthereareanyquestions.
Thisheaterwasdesignedandcertifiedforuseasa
constructionheaterinaccordancewithANSIStandardZ83.7/
CGA2.14.Checkwithyourlocalfiresafetyauthorityifyou
haveanyquestionsaboutyourapplications.Otherstandards
governtheuseoffuelgasesandheatproducingproducts
inspecificapplications.Yourlocalauthoritycanadviseyou
aboutthese.
Direct-Firedmeansthatallofthecombustionproductsenter
theheatedspace.Eventhoughthisheateroperatesveryclose
to100percentcombustionefficiency,itstillproducessmall
amountsofcarbonmonoxide.Carbonmonoxide(calledCO)
istoxic.Wecantoleratesmallamountsbutnotalot.COcan
buildupinaheatedspaceandfailuretoprovideadequate
ventilationcouldresultindeath.
The symptoms of inadequate ventilation are:

•headache

•dizziness

•burningeyesandnose

•nausea

•drymouthorsorethroat
So,besuretofollowadviceaboutventilationinthese
operatinginstructions.
ForcedAirmeansthatablowerorfanpushestheairthrough
theheater.Propercombustiondependsuponthisairflow;
therefore,theheatermustnotberevised,modifiedor
operatedwithpartsremovedormissing.Likewise,safety
systemsmustnotbecircumventedormodifiedinorderto
operatetheheater.
When the heater is to be operated in the presence
of other people the user is responsible for properly
acquainting those present with the safety precautions
and instructions, and of the hazards involved.
