AFTER AN AVALANCHE
THESE SUGGESTIONS DO NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF AN
AVALANCHE SAFETY COURSE.
• Once the avalanche has stopped, assess yourself and the safety of
your surroundings.
• Determine how many others are missing and turn all transceivers
to search.
• Define a search area and begin looking for survivors.
• Do not delay, as research shows that survival rates drop steeply after
the first 12-15 minutes of burial.
• Make sure the trigger handle of the airbag is pushed back up into
the base.
• Your pack should remain on and your balloon inflated until you
reach safety.
• Keep the battery on until you are in a safe situation.
• If you need to access your avalanche gear to help others, take the pack
off quickly WHILE LEAVING THE LEG LOOP FASTENED. Remove the
gear you need, then return the pack to your back. This ensures your
airbag is available and usable in the event of a second avalanche.
WARNING
ALWAYS LEAVE LEG LOOP ATTACHED WHEN IN
AVALANCHE TERRAIN.
