Problem
Some smoke
comes out of the
appliance after I
have switched it on
for the first time.
The appliance
produces a
pumping sound.
The appliance does
not produce any
steam.
Water droplets
come out of the
soleplate.
Wet spots appear
on the garment
during ironing.
Water leaks from
the appliance.
Possible cause
The set ironing temperature is too low.
This is normal. Some parts of the
appliance have been greased lightly in the
factory.
Water is pumped into the boiler inside
the steam generator.This is normal
There is not enough water in the water
tank.
The steam generator is not hot enough to
produce steam.
You are not pressing the steam trigger.
The water tank is not placed properly in
the appliance.
Superheated (i.e. high-quality) steam
is hardly visible, especially when the
temperature dial is set to maximum
position and even less so when the
ambient temperature is relatively high.
The appliance is not switched on.
When you start steam ironing and
when you continue steam ironing after
an interruption, the steam that was still
present in the hose has cooled down and
condensed into water. This causes water
droplets to come out of the soleplate.
The temperature dial is set to a
temperature that is too low for steam
ironing.
The wet spots that appear on your
garment after you have steam ironed for
some time may be caused by steam that
has condensed onto the ironing board.
If you tilt the steam generator during
transport or place it on an uneven surface
when the water tank is full, water may spill
out of the water tank.
Solution
Set a higher ironing temperature.
This phenomenon ceases after a
short while.
If the pumping sound continues
non-stop, switch off the appliance
immediately and unplug it. Contact
an authorised Philips service centre.
Fill the water tank.
Wait until the steam setting light
stays on.
Press the steam trigger and keep it
pressed while you steam iron.
Slide the water tank firmly back into
the steam generator ('click').
To check if the iron really produces
steam, set the iron to a lower
temperature setting between
2 and 3 for more visible steam.
Set the power knob with steam
control to a steam setting.
This is normal. Hold the iron over an
old cloth and press the steam trigger.
The cloth absorbs the drops. After a
few seconds, steam instead of water
comes out of the soleplate.
Set an ironing temperature that
is suitable for steam ironing
(temperature settings 2 to MAX).
Iron the wet spots without steam
for some time to dry them. If the
underside of the ironing board is wet,
wipe it dry with a piece of dry cloth.
Do not tilt the appliance when the
water tank is full.
