Dear customer,
Congratulations on your purchase of a Sevylor product. We take pride in bringing you a quality product which will offer you
years of pleasure. Your new item is an investment which deserves your care and attention. This manual has been
compiled to help you to operate your product with safety and pleasure. It contains details of the product and information on
its operation and maintenance. Read it carefully and familiarize yourself with the motor before using it in order to ensure
the safe use and prevent tragic accidents.
• The propeller has surprising power and it could cause injuries to you and to swimmers. Be careful of swimmers.
• Don't use the motor in open waters, streams with strong currents and fast flowing rivers.
• Do not leave the shore without taking along a fully charged battery, foot pump, a pair of oars and approved life
vests for each passenger.
• Always disconnect battery when working on motor.
• If propeller is stopped by a foreign object, shut off motor immediately to prevent engine burnout which will occur
within 5 minutes (in much less time if the motor is out of the water).
• Observe local regulations relating to water activities and boats with electric motors.
The SEVYLOR SBM18 12V motor is a lightweight, low power, electric outboard motor especially designed by SEVYLOR
for lightweight, inflatable and other small boats. It is ideally suited for fishing in ponds, lakes and protected bays.
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Your 12V SBM18 motor mounts directly to the SEVYLOR boat (if your boat model is designed to take this outboard
motor). This kind of boat features 2 black eyelets which you will find in the center of the back of the boat. In this case no
special motor mount is necessary.
BONUS FEATURE: Additionally the motor comes with a clamp which allows you to mount the SBM18 to a transom or
motor mount. Size of clamp opening : 4.5 cm / 1.8".
1. Attaching the propeller
Remove the cap from the drive shaft, push the enclosed shearing pin through the whole in the drive shaft so it is
E
centered, attach the propeller to the drive shaft (push it carefully over the shaft until it locks in with the sheer pin) and
N
tighten securely with the locknut. To unscrew and remove the locknut use the supplied propeller wrench only.
G
2. Mounting directly to the SEVYLOR boat (without the clamp)
Remove the small tension collar & triangular fitting (# E) from the stainless steel pipe (# C) – the clamp # I must also be
L
removed - and feed the steel pipe through the top black eyelet on the boat. Then slide the triangular fitting on the
I
stainless steel pipe - it should rest on top of the lower eyelet - and feed the stainless steel pipe further through the
S
lower eyelet. Clamp the triangular fitting into the motor shaft and affix the small tension collar with thumb screw below
the lower fitting preventing it from moving.
H
3. Mounting to a transom or motor mount (by using the clamp)
Remove the small tension collar & triangular fitting with clamp (# E) from the stainless steel pipe (# C) and slide the
clamp onto the metal rod all the way to the top. Then slide the triangular fitting on the stainless steel pipe and affix the
small tension collar with thumb screw. Triangular fitting & small tension collar has to be positioned directly below the
clamp (see figure 2 - # E). Attach the motor with the clamp to the transom. Make sure you tighten both mounting bolts
securely.
4. Adjust the height of the motor with the large tension collar (# J). The propeller of the motor has to be submerged fully.
5. Connect the cable and clips to the corresponding battery terminals (+ to +, - to -).
BATTERY (not included)
Use any deep charge 12V – 15 Ampere battery (preferably a marine or motorcycle type). A deep charge battery will supply
constant electricity over a long period of time and can be fully run down and recharged.
An automobile battery is not suitable, since it is designed to dispense a large burst of power for a short period of time
(when the car starts). It is immediately recharged by a generator. A car battery is not designed to be discharged fully and
charged again. There are two types of batteries available, the dry cell battery or the liquid cell battery.
IMPORTANT: If you use a liquid cell battery always keep the battery in a suitable battery box.
OPERATING & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
The motor is equipped with two switches: a direction switch ("I" = forward, "R" = reverse) which also turns the motor on
(motor is turned off when the direction switch is in the center "0" position) and a speed switch ("–" = slow, "=" = fast).
The steering handle (tiller) is retractable: pull on the small knob underneath the handle to release it and pull it out until it
locks. To retract again, pull on the knob and push the handle in till it locks in retracted position.
When you are in shallow water, you must tilt up the motor. To do this, open the triangular fitting and release the motor
shaft. Pull up the motor and tilt it into the boat. Never perform this operation or any other adjustments on the motor or
propellor without first disconnecting the battery.
Always make sure the propellor is unobstructed and will clear the bottom of the boat. Swing motor around 360º. Best
performance is achieved if the propellor is submerged fully, but not more than 6-8 cm / 2-3" below the water line.
The motor is cooled by the water. If the motor is out of water shut off motor immediately (up to 20 seconds test run
does not damage the motor).
